xp I've never been to the South irl but of all the ATL rappers I've listened to for years I never noticed this pronunciation pattern.

accents in the South are cray. I love ATL too.

On third listen of Gucci Time, repetitive Justice sample is still annoying as hell (and I love Justice), but I think it might click soon like most of the songs on Mr. Zone 6

Drumma Boy's beat on "All About the Money"=pure weight. man that bass line, so sinister and pulsating, coupled with those synths....Gucci killing it too makes this a current favorite.

I live in the south and have heard skrimp instead of shrimp for at least 20 years. That's all.

is Back to the Trap House good? couldn't find a review in a respected media publication (just some lame Hip Hop blog that said Gucci's the worst rapper in the world, which discreditedi t immediately).

Ok, so anybody who isn't a sardonic ass wanna reply? part of the reason I'm asking is that Best Buy has it (I still buy cds see), and I was asking for a recommendation since I'm going to be gone most of the weekend and don't have time to d/l it or go on youtube and listen to it. i was probably gonna get it anyway, but I was just curious as to YOUr opinions since I respect them.
xxpost thanks k3vin

I don't care for it.

i got the other trap house albums for completist purposes, going to d/l the rest of the mixtapes soon. I now officially have way too much music to listen to in the next week.
― plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Saturday, 14 August 2010 17:32 (thirteen years ago) link
Back to the traphouse is pretty good, but its a notch below his post-08 stuff
I reviewed it for popmatters but the review probably isn't that good tbh
― be my anchor baby (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 14 August 2010 19:12 (thirteen years ago) link
It's something you can look back on and see the roots of gucci's goofy pop brilliance, but lyrically its not on the same level as the mixtape stuff that came after it
― be my anchor baby (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 14 August 2010 19:14 (thirteen years ago) link
Has some classics tho -- I might be, 15 minutes, bird flu, freaky gurl etc

yea i might be is the only song i ever go back to on that tbh

k I actually cancelled the one order and picked up Back to the Trap House and Murder was the Case (which yea I know is some new songs combined with some old ones, but figured itw asn't a bad start). gonna hafta go reload up on CD-Rs for the mixtapes.
I'm amazed at the great divide of thought on Gucci Mane. even though his albums are successful, a lot more mainstream or casual fans tend to say he sucks than someone like, T.I., per se. I don't get the criticisms. Are people really buying his albums and expecting him to drop lyrics like Tribe CAlled Quest?

never heard it round here, where accents are more about bending vowels and R's, always associate skreets with earlier slurrier T.I.

yeah it's such bullshit that SO many people who give Rick Ross a free pass still hate on Gucci
― honorary falser (some dude), Saturday, 14 August 2010 21:18 (thirteen years ago) link
some people wear hating rappers as a badge of honor. I did for many years. I guess the shame that comes with potentially loving a "wack" rapper is too much to bear for any mortal man.
― plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Saturday, 14 August 2010 21:24 (thirteen years ago) link
well i totally wear hating Ross as a badge of honor, i'm ok with hate. i just think it's funny how some southern rappers can get past the usual stigmas with the right co-signs/label/beats and other guys stay on the shit list no matter how much better they are.

i'm wary of rap concerts for that reason. sometimes it comes across as karaoke.
The ATCQ reunion show I saw in 2006 was free of that, as they were all inspired. I'd prefer to see any rap concert in clubs too -- doesn't translate to arenas and stuff well at all
― plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Saturday, 14 August 2010 21:37 (thirteen years ago) link

weird, i still associate wayne with the "hated on as a bad of honor" crowd. it took a loooong time for people to give up the "lil wayne killed hip-hop" posturing, and some still haven't
