30,000 feet or pilot talk?

pilot talk
i'll check out some of those tapes in a bit, don't think i've heard any of em
― ciderpress, Monday, 23 August 2010 03:09 (thirteen years ago) link
i've been out of the loop on rap for a couple years now, gotta start lurking rolling goon thread maybe
― ciderpress, Monday, 23 August 2010 03:12 (thirteen years ago) link
i get why ppl think currensy is boring if theyve just heard pilot talk tbh
― NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE GUCCI (deej), Monday, 23 August 2010 04:28 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah, it's fine has its moments obv, but i think it's prob the least good currensy album/mixtape i've heard
― d4n, d4n, d4n (yaosah, yaosah, yaosah) (The Reverend), Monday, 23 August 2010 05:04 (thirteen years ago) link
i dl'd this a while ago and still haven't listened to it, so hi thread.
― eat, pray, love, fly @ u face (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 23 August 2010 05:06 (thirteen years ago) link
i think maybe 'elevator musik' is my fav currensy track right now
― NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE GUCCI (deej), Monday, 23 August 2010 05:14 (thirteen years ago) link
that one is super-dope
― d4n, d4n, d4n (yaosah, yaosah, yaosah) (The Reverend), Monday, 23 August 2010 05:21 (thirteen years ago) link
ok this doesn't sound quite as miraculous a few days later but it's still the best rap album i've heard in 2010. which probably means i need to hear more new stuff, but i haven't seen anyone repping hard for any albums/tapes this year except for this one and the big boi disc.
― ciderpress, Thursday, 26 August 2010 04:26 (thirteen years ago) link
i liked this but didn't love it, maybe need some more listens tbh
― hold me, thrill me, kiss me, lil b (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 26 August 2010 04:48 (thirteen years ago) link
i agree that curren$y is more of an effect than a leader on this album but goddamn the beats are good and C doesn't take anything away from them. This feels a little frontloaded to me. Real nice overall tho'.
― this isn't STRAWBERRY 0_o it's RAWBERRY (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 26 August 2010 05:05 (thirteen years ago) link
I dunno, I actually think Pilot Talk is better than his previous stuff, as a whole.
― altered boners (rennavate), Thursday, 26 August 2010 06:51 (thirteen years ago) link
there really arent that many rappers who talk about it this exclusively! kinda tiring of the Some Dude 'why is this rapper suddenly so popular??' thing -- made more sense when u were talking about big krit, less so a rapper who has been releasing mixtapes and building steady buzz for the last four years while guesting on lots of ppl's songs

yeah sorry it is a bit predictable from me. but MTV Jams keeps playing the "Life Under The Scope" video back to back with Wiz's "This Plane" and i'm just scratching my head like holy shit this is some boring-ass rap music. the "Scope" beat is so wack I'm disappointed in Ski for making it.
― some dude, Thursday, 26 August 2010 13:38 (thirteen years ago) link
wtf that beat is great!
― king boy swag (The Reverend), Thursday, 26 August 2010 23:05 (thirteen years ago) link
i just want to listen to 'elevator music' all the time. i hate 2 be that dude who's all like 'the mixtapes/old stuff is better' but in this case they really really are

i seriously am tempted to do a "is this beat good or bad" poll because honestly to my ears that shit was drowned in wack juice and then sauteed in a wack marinade

― Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 27 August 2010 19:16 (thirteen years ago) link
i like the life under the scope beat
it sounds a bit different in that music vid though from the album track, like its mixed differently or something
― ciderpress, Friday, 27 August 2010 19:20 (thirteen years ago) link
oh it doesn't sound like it the drums were mixed down in a cave on the album?
― steenage dream (some dude), Friday, 27 August 2010 19:29 (thirteen years ago) link
which probably means i need to hear more new stuff, but i haven't seen anyone repping hard for any albums/tapes this year except for this one and the big boi disc.
this is a problem
― to be rill rill (samosa gibreel), Friday, 27 August 2010 19:39 (thirteen years ago) link
admittedly it hasn't been a huge year for rap tbh but both of these albums are pretty overrated & prob not in my top ten of the year. i think 2011 is going to be a great year for rap, though. a lot of cool shit sprouting these days
― to be rill rill (samosa gibreel), Friday, 27 August 2010 19:43 (thirteen years ago) link
Nah, Rick Ross and Shabazz Palaces are terrific too.
― Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 27 August 2010 19:44 (thirteen years ago) link
ppl have been repping for lots of (quite varied) stuff this year.
xxxp yeah, the drums are way undermixed (intentionally, i imagine) but it works imo. knocking hard is not that track's purpose

yeah obv there's no one way all beats should sound, i'm just saying it sounds like garbage to me, the drums and the synths and everything. sounds like something i'd hear on a local mixtape and run to the skip button on.
― steenage dream (some dude), Friday, 27 August 2010 19:45 (thirteen years ago) link
wuht i thought shabazz palaces was last year? they already got something out this year?
― to be rill rill (samosa gibreel), Friday, 27 August 2010 19:48 (thirteen years ago) link
samosa otm about both the big boi & pilot talk being overrated/not top ten/etc but both are fine and i think most ppl here if they started shitting on them it would be kind of disingenuous to do so
― does a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ sh!t in the woods? (The Reverend), Friday, 27 August 2010 19:49 (thirteen years ago) link
naw shabazz was last year but no one here was talking about it til this year
I think I saw the first review posted in January.

for me rap in 2010 is a handful of solid releases from mid-weight dudes (gucci, jeezy, z-ro & friends, ross) and some really promising debuts, and then cool subterranean internet rap nerd shit like lil b & odd future & young l bay slap. as much as i love that yelawolf tape i strongly believe the follow-up will surpass it, and it's going to be really interesting to follow him and like, roach gigz and and krit too. hopefully starlito, too. lots of fun to be had listening but most of my favourite releases are auspices of hope that some 10/10 world-defeating rap music is in the works
last thing i want to do is shit on big boi or currensy, just hope that people cast a bit of a wider net as barometer of rap in 2010. there are like seven enormous jams on sir luscious
― to be rill rill (samosa gibreel), Friday, 27 August 2010 20:05 (thirteen years ago) link
put me up on roach gigz. i am not up on him.
― does a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ sh!t in the woods? (The Reverend), Friday, 27 August 2010 20:08 (thirteen years ago) link
this is kind of a weird incubator year, if that makes sense. but that mostly tells me things are healthy, even a lot of good stuff is not right at the forefront.
― does a ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ sh!t in the woods? (The Reverend), Friday, 27 August 2010 20:09 (thirteen years ago) link
or even in its most developed state. like, there's a lot of potential in the air right now.

o my ladies, o my gentlemen, let it be known that these are the words of a man whose response to any part of the 20-year career of e-40 is "no thanks".
o my fellow ilxors great and good, there is hardly then any need to put it to you that these are therefore the words of a man whose statements concerning rap cannot be trusted without the gravest of misconceptions ensuing.
idk man seems pretty good to me
