Just how many times are you planning to completely revise your stance on this Stewart?

mark s (mark s), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

Where do you think I've revised my stance Mark?

"don't fite ppl, make love instead"

Good point Julio - I'd like to make it crystal clear that I am prepared to revise my stance comprehensively, take back everything horrid I've said about The Corrs and condemn that nasty Pop man immediately if it means I've got a chance with Andrea.

Or Caroline.

Or Sharon.

I draw the line at Jim 'though.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hmmm...didn't realize we were being graded on this.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

YOU TWO HAVE FAILED! (I think Tom is right BTW)

caroline is mine!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

Caroline would never go for a fatuous cheese monkey like yourself, Julio, as she's clearly afraid of food.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

actually a good test of the scale of yr iggy fandom is wd you prefer to fuck osterburg then (like 1970 say) or now?

my ans: now, by far

mark s (mark s), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

for instance the post below is kinda lame:

''Maybe I'm just bitter that four people can be earning obscene amounts of money working in the music industry without having sufficient interest in their profession to have bothered to assimilate even the most basic background information about one of the most significant figures in that industry of the last 3 decades?

If I knew that little about the industry I worked in I'd confidently expect be sacked - and quite right too.''

he's not seen as a significant figure in the 'industry' really. and again, they sing songs, they don't do research.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

Would the girls have preferred this treatment?

"actually a good test of the scale of yr iggy fandom is wd you prefer to fuck osterburg then (like 1970 say) or now?"

I'm only prepered to show my "Appropriate Breathless Reverence for Great Wild Man of Rock Like It Clearly Says in the Careful Rockfan's Manual of Recieved Opinion" just so far and that is waaaaaay to far for me.

You knew that, didn't you Mark? That's why you only gave me 9/10, isn't it?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

mark s (mark s), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think even if you knew abt all the stories of his 'wild days' you wouldn't expect him to spit on you because he's older now. rock legends leave their wildness behind them really.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

"rock legends leave their wildness behind them really."

Most do. Some, however, don't.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

Beyond that, I'd really love to live in this wacky alternate universe where EVERYONE knows EVERYTHING about Iggy Pop.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

wasn't there something on 'gobbing' on that lester bangs piece on the Clash? Lester said it was lame and lester is always right (well, wasn't right abt the clash or the stooges really).

''Most do. Some, however, don't.''

how is spitting 'wild' alex? he's got fuck all (had fuck all in the first place actually)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

"I think even if you knew abt all the stories of his 'wild days' you wouldn't expect him to spit on you because he's older now. rock legends leave their wildness behind them really."

Maybe they don't leave their wildness behind them if they think they still need to maintain that rep. to keep the crowds and therefore the money coming in?

I bet Iggy made more money out of his 1969 - 1977 catalogue than his 1978 - 2002 catalogue last year....

not knowing abt the industry is one of the roolz of punk stewart. breaking away from history and all.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

I didn't say spitting was "wild". I was merely refuting your rather sweeping generalization. Cheese monkey!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Beyond that, I'd really love to live in this wacky alternate universe where EVERYONE knows EVERYTHING about Iggy Pop."

What do you reckon Alex? Should we let him in or not?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

he knew abt who the corrs were and he spat on them for the headlines, serving up some crap story for the entertainment columns. fucking pathetic.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

"not knowing abt the industry is one of the roolz of punk stewart. breaking away from history and all."

Claiming to not know about the industry was one of the more fatuous and easily refuted claims of a vociferous handful of punk bands, certainly.....

Are you saying The Corrs are the new Sex Pistols?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

''Caroline would never go for a fatuous cheese monkey like yourself, Julio, as she's clearly afraid of food.''

I'm really fit as mark s will testify. caroline is mine.

''Are you saying The Corrs are the new Sex Pistols?''

the pistols were a one off.

"he knew abt who the corrs were and he spat on them for the headlines, serving up some crap story for the entertainment columns. fucking pathetic."

If that's true - and if it is I have to agree with you - did it succeed in getting any coverage anywhere?

I haven't heard about it anywhere other than here (and no-one I've mentioned it too has seemed to have heard about it); but then I do make a very specific point of NOT reading the entertainment columns....

If it was a publicity stunt, were The Corrs in on it?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

"the pistols were a one off."

Very true - but a one off who were heavily influenced by The Stooges of course.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

"he knew abt who the corrs were and he spat on them for the headlines"

Weren't some of the Corrs Corps zealoulsy alledging that he didn't, in fact, know it was them?

When has Iggy *EVER* cared about headlines? It's not like he's ever had a squeaky clean image nor high-selling track record to defend.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'd also like to point out to everyone here that the incident in question happened back in what? July? I'm sure all parties concerned have well moved on and forgotten about it, further emphasizing the pointlessness of this particular debate.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:52 (twenty-one years ago) link

''If that's true - and if it is I have to agree with you - did it succeed in getting any coverage anywhere?''

I don't read the entertainment columns either so i wouldn't know. the show was in dublin so it might have got coverage there.

''Very true - but a one off who were heavily influenced by The Stooges of course.''

no it was early rock n'roll with lydon on vocals (which is why they were 'acceptable' to these ears).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:53 (twenty-one years ago) link

''When has Iggy *EVER* cared about headlines? It's not like he's ever had a squeaky clean image nor high-selling track record to defend.''

I think he cares about it. if he's stops selling he gets dropped by the rec company.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

anyway, must go.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ig's at a point where even if he were dropped by Virgin (not unheard of, given the piss-poor performance of BEAT'EM UP), he'd be snatched up by another label based on his rep alone. Moreover, I honestly don't think he'd really care.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:57 (twenty-one years ago) link

"When has Iggy *EVER* cared about headlines? It's not like he's ever had a squeaky clean image nor high-selling track record to defend."

I think the point is / was / would have been that it [would have] promoted precisely the opposite image - which is, of course, the one he trades on.

"[The 'Pistols were] early rock n'roll with lydon on vocals.

Even when The 'Pistols were busily denying any links with "that necrophiliac rock 'n' roll", The Stooges were one of the few bands that they were prepared to cite as a major influence - they even even covered "No Fun"....

Actually, from what I know of your musical tastes, I am genuinely surprised that you don't rate Fun House, Julio.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 13 January 2003 22:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

i missed all this...did the corrs make a statement? maybe they were at the gig because they knew of IGGys reputation and were well pleased when he spagged on them?

gaz (gaz), Monday, 13 January 2003 22:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

this was a lot more interesting/funny when there were real live Corrs fans around. Watching you guys bicker about Iggy and his career is *yawnsville*

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 13 January 2003 22:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

As I said before expecting the Corrs to go to concerts where they're familiar with the artist and not for any other reason is just as insane as expecting Iggy not to "be Iggy" in concert.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 08:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

haha, this is great: just when this amazing thread seemed ready to slow down it seems it's going to take a detour into dreaded SEX PISTOLS = RAWK OR NOT? territory! NOW IT WILL NEVER END!

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 09:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Where have all the devoted hard-Corr fans gone btw? Not home from school yet?"
HA! once again, little do u people know. Maybe we just dont give a shit about what you say! as far as we're concerned, none of you exsist. the only reason any of us replied is for a laugh. so, we'll leave you people to it, off to the pub i think, and i might slay a few people on the way.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 11:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Andrea, if I did take back what I said and promise to denounce Iggy Pop do you think there any chance that....?

No, thought not.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 11:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

andrea i don't want you. i want caroline so go away.

Congratulations "Iggy Vs The Corrs" on reaching your 250th message. Not many threads hit this golden number and I'm sure all of ILX will join with me in wishing you many more posts in the future.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 12:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yeah......in "the ready position".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 13:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

Mark, Tom, Julio --

Right at the outset, I want to make a few things completely clear: Since I haven't liked anything Iggy's done in about twenty years, I wouldn't describe myself as a 'fanboy.' Moreover, I've never knowingly heard the Corrs, and I have no opinion on them one way or the other.

As a lawyer, I'm very interested in the idea of burden of proof. In this situation, I think the burden of proof would be on those who are criticizing Iggy's behavior rather than those who find it amusing.

The argument that Iggy doesn't have a reputation for spitting on people is asinine. Iggy has a reputation for doing stupid and gross things. Spitting is a stupid and gross thing. It's not too hard to draw the lines.

I'm very sorry that Andrea Corr got spat on and found it to be disgusting. If Iggy had spat on me I too would be disgusted. Perhaps I'm just unlucky that I don't have a bunch of fans I can rely upon to attack him for me.

Bottom line: if he spat on somebody non-famous, we wouldn't even have heard about it, and I barely heard about it as it is.

IHBT. IHL. HAND!

J (Jay), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 18:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

''Bottom line: if he spat on somebody non-famous, we wouldn't even have heard about it, and I barely heard about it as it is.''

if he had spat on somebody non-famous he might have got beaten up and then we would have heard about it.

I don't think he would have spat on anyone non-famous tho'. not nowdays, anyway.
