10 Years on from September the 11th 2001 we're celebrating New York City in the only way we know how, with a totally New York playlist.

Huey will also be joined by the man with probably the most New York voice, legendary comedian Jackie Mason.

And we'll be taking a Vinyl Fetish direct from the Streets of NYC as the man with possibly the finest collection of soul in the city, Mr Finewine, picks some wax for us.

Mission accomplished. Good thing I remembered your (James Redd) real first name and the part of the town where you live. At that point he recognized your name, and says hello speaking fondly of you (awwww). As the El Gran Combo gig was an earlier one (and a great one if you like salsa), the gf and I headed over to hear DJ Fine Wine and DJ Nitekrawler(the DC dj host). Only song I recognized was Nitekrawler playing Etta James "Tell Mama." Fine Wine played tons of unknown to me vinyl featuring women soul singers.

Wow, amazing run - and the show still sounds fresh every time I tune in.
And I'll take this opportunity to stan for the double albums he compiled for Vampi-Soul, "Scratch That Itch" and "Teach Me How To Monkey" (haven't heard the third one yet). Really appreciate that they're pressed on 45 RPM heavy LP's so they sound nice and fat, unlike a lot of other comps of similar material - and they include a lot of stuff you'd have to drop double digits to score as OG 45's. If you're even vaguely into early 60's soul, or want some danceable stuff that's not overplayed for when you DJ, you can't lose with these.

FB just recommended I friend the Vampi-Soul lhoncho.

Think I may go tomorrow to Botanica, now that he is back from Detroit. Think I might try to get Morbius to go.

What was it? Oh yes, Mr. Fine Wine and his fiancée were telling me about when the had dinner with the Holland brothers and met McKinley Jackson. Then some Dap Kings walked in after playing a party to promote a friend of theirs new book called "Rock Star Remedies," I believe.

Nice. You got me googling--did not realize how many folks McKinley Jackson worked with.

Last time I checked it did, which was about an hour and a half ago, while I was standing there in a big crowd of people including a best-selling author we went to college with, but I can text Mr. Wine for an update if you'd like.
