I totally hate "The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch". Both on this and the second record Eno went with a chump track second, and it kills the momentum both times.

Jesus, someone should of really mentioned "Dead Finks Don't Talk" by now.

"Needle" is really well used in Velvet Goldmine.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 15:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Mine would be:

On Some Faraway Beach
Here Come the Warm Jets
Needles in the Camel's Eye
Baby's on Fire
Some of Them Are Old
The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch
Blank Frank
Driving Me Backwards
Dead Finks Don't Talk
Cindy Tells Me

Plenty of love for "Blank Frank," but There Can Be Only One.

DLee, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 16:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Does anyone else unfortunately have Elton Johns Can You Feel the Love Tonight stuck in their head after listening to Here Come The Warm Jets (the song)?

Michael_Pemulis, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Mm, no. I used to always have My Bloody Valentine stuck inmy head after listening to "Here Come The Warm Jets". No, really.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Saturday, 3 May 2008 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Fuckin' "Needles..." of course (although "Baby's On Fire" is a close second).

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 3 May 2008 23:39 (sixteen years ago) link

"Cindy Tells Me" is perfect.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 3 May 2008 23:41 (sixteen years ago) link

hard to choose but lets say Paw Paw

Zeno, Saturday, 3 May 2008 23:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Had to go with 'Baby's on Fire' - damn thing just makes me smile.

BlackIronPrison, Sunday, 4 May 2008 00:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Everything's a close second, but "Needles".

I love me Tall Dwarfs but they pretty much owe a lot of their sound to this song alone.

I have it in my head that I really like this album but picking songs off it seems to somehow diminish it. Taking Tiger Mountain would be a TOUGH poll though.

Cindy Tells Me

The Brainwasher, Sunday, 4 May 2008 02:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Baby's On Fire, obv.

Blank Frank could have used someone like Helmet covering it in the mid-90s.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 4 May 2008 02:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Or Quicksand

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 4 May 2008 02:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Voted On SOme Faraway Beach so it gets some action

Niles Caulder, Sunday, 4 May 2008 15:25 (sixteen years ago) link

More action, I guess. Could've been any of them

Niles Caulder, Sunday, 4 May 2008 15:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not telling what my choice was but I bet every track here gets at least one vote.

sleeve, Sunday, 4 May 2008 18:14 (sixteen years ago) link

This is the hardest one yet! I voted "Baby's On Fire" just over the title track but every song is great.

Sundar, Sunday, 4 May 2008 18:49 (sixteen years ago) link

"Some of Them Are Old," for the slide guitar solo.

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 4 May 2008 20:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Sunday, 4 May 2008 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm surprised to see "Blank Frank" come in as low as it did, though I didn't vote for it myself.

DLee, Monday, 5 May 2008 13:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Blank Frank was my second choice. a genius of pre- post punk song

Zeno, Monday, 5 May 2008 13:45 (sixteen years ago) link

surprises me that Some Of Them Are Old isn't up at like 5 or 6, but these are nicely varied.

I chose "On Some Faraway Beach".

six years pass...

question:

i have read conflicting accounts about who recorded the solo in "baby's on fire" and i would like to know whether it is fripp or manzanera?!

La Lechera, Monday, 1 December 2014 17:24 (nine years ago) link

That is definitely Fripp.

Letsby Avenue (Tom D.), Monday, 1 December 2014 17:25 (nine years ago) link

Ok thank you very much!
I thought so, but for some reason I felt like I read in the book I just read (the Sheppard one) that there was a dispute? Is there a name for that style of guitar playing other than Fripp-like?

La Lechera, Monday, 1 December 2014 17:29 (nine years ago) link

one year passes...
