now that i think about it, it's kinda surprising and awesome that plant has kinda evolved into one of the coolest and dignified and most comfortable in his own skin down-ass brother type classic rock icons...which, given his zep image and persona, wouldn't have seemed like it would be the case

jimmy page came off equally well in the it might get loud documentary (which the edge was in too, speaking of doofuses from u2).

watching the clip now, finally.

me: "why does anybody let this guy on stage, anywhere?"
andre: "he just made a billion dollars off the facebook ipo. he can do whatever he wants."

the dried stigmas of the saffron crocus (get bent), Saturday, 10 March 2012 05:42 (twelve years ago) link

andre: "what would you do with one billion dollars?"
me: "i'd find a way to double it and then i'd pay bono to never sing again."

You might still have to muzzle the guy.

That Robert Plant video sounds awesome btw. Maybe I should consider giving his solo career a chance, ive only heard the alisson kraus album so far and that one sounds really good.

Any recommendations for starters if I loved raising sand and this song up here?

Moka, Saturday, 10 March 2012 06:39 (twelve years ago) link

that Robert Plant this is good but imo this Bono performance is better.

⚓ (gr8080), Saturday, 10 March 2012 06:48 (twelve years ago) link

This is how McCain would dance. Did Bono crash a plane?

beachville, Saturday, 10 March 2012 10:57 (twelve years ago) link

What I've heard of Plant's solo stuff from the last decade ha been pretty good. i think i might have a full set by him with Tinariwen that was circulated a couple of years back. Not sure if this is that.

Stevolende, Saturday, 10 March 2012 13:53 (twelve years ago) link

I kept fast forwarding this and every time I'd stop, he was still yelling "VIVAAAAAA" except one part when it sounded like he was saying "What I got you got to get it put it in you."

<skip> "AH! AH! AH! AH! AH! AH! AH! AH! AH! AH!"
<skip> "oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhooowoooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaahhhh"

two weeks pass...

Bono stayed at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem and left behind an inspiring note.

Hope is like a faithful dog, sometimes she runs ahead of me to check the future, to sniff it out and then I call to her: Hope, Hope, come here, and she comes to me. I pet her, she eats out of my hand and sometimes she stays behind, near some other hope maybe to sniff out whatever was. Then I call her my Despair. I call out to her. Here, my little Despair, come here and she comes and snuggles up, and again I call her Hope.

important article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/oct/23/mali-militants-declare-war-music

coincidence, or the direct sociopolitical impact of the performance which began this thread?

An official decree banning all western music was issued on 22 August by a heavily bearded Islamist spokesman in the city of Gao. "We don't want the music of Satan. Qur'anic verses must take its place. Sharia demands it," the decree says.

...

This year in January, no doubt the last festival to be held in Timbuktu for a while occurred in an atmosphere of high alert after recent kidnappings and the murder of a German tourist by al-Qaida. The event was attended by Tinariwen, a host of other Touareg and Malian musicians and Bono.
