echoing the praise for gods father. the percentage of hits to misses is unbelievable considering the length
the pitched up sample tracks are all sooo good. inspired use of millie jackson's version of "angel in your arms" on "tropics"

at the grocery store yesterday i heard a couple teenage bag boys having a discussion about an unnamed rapper -- "he's like soulja boy but a whole level below that," "yeah he doesn't even rhyme most of the time" -- i made the obvious assumption about who they were referring to

i have never had an IRL conversation about that guy and hope i never do
i said this on twitter recently but the way Lil B and Odd Future 'controversies' etc. get reported on on the gossip segments of mainstream rap stations that never play their music is weird, that's like the shittiest career in the world to have imo. obv those guys have big fanbases that aren't entirely limited to 'internet people' but still to huge swaths of rap listeners they're just guys w/ vague name recognition who get into dumb shit or name their album "i'm gay" but have no songs of any note.
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 17:30 (twelve years ago) link
obviously it's not that they're "not good enough" for radio listeners because we're talking about the big sean is a star era but at a certain point being cult famous without having a hit is like some mac miller shit
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 17:32 (twelve years ago) link
yeah idk... odd future are doing pretty well for themselves -- distribution for a major, been selling out nice sized venues for a year and change and i bet they make a fucking mint off of merch -- for lil b that's prob true
― 3hunn O))) (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 17:32 (twelve years ago) link
from a major*
i'm guessing the Cartoon Network money probably dwarfs the royalties from their albums at this point
― stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 17:34 (twelve years ago) link
which, duh, but i mean $$ from the music itself is probably the smallest slice of pie
no i mean on one hand they totally do have a great career in a lot of ways, in terms of being self-sufficient and having a dedicated fanbase, etc. being a pitchfork fave is prob better than being a 3rd string major label rapper for show money alone. but seriously being a regular in the "guess who said some dumb shit on Twitter" rumor mill segment on stations that don't play your music seems like such a lose/lose proposition to me.
