New one is like Hold Steady meets Husker Du. Or vice versa.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 16 April 2012 15:28 (twelve years ago) link
New one is really, really good.
― heiswagger (rennavate), Friday, 20 April 2012 23:21 (twelve years ago) link
if the formula contained only Hold Steady and Husker Du it was better. the problem is the emo vocals imo.i like the loud, never ending guitar chords and the Gun Club cover is awesome.

i dunno who these guys are before, and i didn't like the original song, but i like this cover.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3UKNHcq798
also, kexp sounds really good for college radio. i'm used to college radio live recordings sounding like boomboxes.the dick dale one sounds great, too.

I just got their new 7-inch in the mail... I love how the packages always come with airheads candy. It's such a nice little bonus.
― billstevejim, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 19:06 (twelve years ago) link
Oh yeah, the song is cool too.

I was all excited seeing the Pitchfork review, thinking it was out today, but have to wait another week still. The stream will do for this week.

― Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Friday, 1 June 2012 02:05 (twelve years ago) link
there a few joints on this but pretty meh to me all around
i find their stuff to be way too earnest -- i need some cynicism, some self-depreciation, some humor
hearts colliding on a fire highway does nothing for me
― fapper don (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 June 2012 02:26 (twelve years ago) link
Normally I'd agree, but they sell it so well

I hear that in "Art Czars"

*2017 album
Sounds like something that's gonna kick a lot more ass live
hope they release a live album some day, maybe even a film
― niels, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 07:58 (seven years ago) link
it also kicks more ass on repeat listens
woohoo look forward to seeing them!

these heartfelt rock bands always walk a razor's edge of being cheesy (or too cheesy) this feels like the Japandroids where I'll get off the train...

these guys were really fun live but i don't think their albums have held up that well and these new songs are really weak
― ufo, Tuesday, 10 January 2017 15:49 (seven years ago) link
they're better live than on record
first single was great though, top 5 singles for me last year, curious to hear this one

The b-side of Wild Heart is "Love-Building on Fire"
― van smack, Saturday, 21 January 2017 02:14 (seven years ago) link
I don't much like the two slow/distorted electronic-y tracks in the middle of the album, but otherwise this new record is fantastic. The title track was already my #1 song of 2016, and there are like four more year-end candidates for '17 ("North East South West," "True Love and a Free Life of Free Will," "Midnight to Morning," "In a Body Like a Grave") on the rest of the record.
― some sad trombone Twilight Zone shit (cryptosicko), Monday, 30 January 2017 03:51 (seven years ago) link
these dudes pulled off the tricky trick of evolving / growing up / expanding their sound while making a good record that still sounds like themselves. kudos, dudes.
