and who else talks like this on the record? the guy just doesn't give a fuck about what people think or do, he does his thing and does it ridiculously well. if that's not inspiring, i don't know what is.

do you like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly? Richard Littlejohn?

Local Garda, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 20:40 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah they're basically exactly the same, but only if the listener is retarded. which in your case must be true!

pipecock, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 20:43 (fifteen years ago) link

strange that he's never heard of villalobos when he's like 100 times more famous than himself.

aside from the retarded hype surrounding the Martinez Brothers (are they really even deep house?), even the "new" guys on this scene tend to be older.

my guess is you people wouldnt know soul in music if it smacked you in the face. if you think a frequency range or dynamic level has anything to do with soul, youre probably retarded

― pipecock

some of the most retarded things i have ever read in my entire life appear in this thread.

-- pipecock

when i say this same thing about house and techno music, people think that's not a valid viewpoint. the longer the knockoffs are around and the greater they are in numbers, the more they begin to write the popular opinion. which is of course pretty retarded.

― pipecock

disliking sugar ray is also just retarded, i wish they were still putting out a summer jam every year.

from djhistory

is it serious? i think its seriously retarded when people try to say they're from somewhere that theyre not so they can get some kind of credibility or something

am i supposed to care that my fashion sense isnt cool enough for ILM? hahahahaha. too funny. it's like being back in high school, but more retarded.

― pipecock, Wednesday, April 16, 2008 12:43 AM Bookmark

that is literally the most retarded thing ive ever heard anyone say on any music forum ever, and that is saying a lot. how can you possibly be that retarded? how?

― pipecock, Wednesday, November 21, 2007 6:53 PM Bookmark

typically retarded ilm attitude. good luck with that!

this album is like Moodymann for white music. not 100% wack, but pretty blandly inoffensive and not really very interesting to me. the fact that they take writing credit for it is pretty retarded too.

the new one beats HW, it will be the most retarded thing ever. HAA is pretty much complete garbage, no matter what your angle is.

They don't want money, they don't want to put out good music. They want to do that shit half-ass

so OTM. hate it when people don't push it creatively & businesswise. if you see music as a cool temporary hobby, please don't release anything.

"psychotic photosynthesis" has always reminded me of "sieso".

i'm super-psyched for his fabric mix as well.

tricky, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 21:54 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe i should say that i'm fucking psyched for his fabric mix.

tricky, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 21:55 (fifteen years ago) link

has anyone heard the jesse rose essential mix?

the mix i have been playing the most lately is cd 1 of this

i think i have omar-s' fya #4 which is pretty much ace

tricky, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 21:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Watch out tricky, that compilation looks pretty retarded really.

Tim F, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 22:13 (fifteen years ago) link

quite strange track selections....is it good then?

Local Garda, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 22:15 (fifteen years ago) link

well, it's nice because it's not all german, not all british, not all one (micro) genre, not all american, not all one artist and yeah, it flows really well - so yeah, track selection and mixing ability are up there on this one. i'd say if the artists in the tracklist are your cup of tea then you will like it. fucking $28 comp for those of us in the states, too.

tricky, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 22:27 (fifteen years ago) link

tim everytime i see freaks in a tracklist or hear them in general i think of you

tricky, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 22:35 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm flattered by your emo-retardery tricky but i'm surprised you think of me, would have thought i'm no bigger or more prominent a MFF fan than yourself or vahid.

I haven't heard any of the songs on that comp bar Closer Musik I think but I agree the artist selection looks nicely balanced. I rather like Tania Vulcano as a DJ (her Cadenza 12inch was also quite nice).

Tim F, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 22:38 (fifteen years ago) link

i think it's just that you are always repping for them. i'm a fan, but not to an encyclopedic level or anything. i would bet that you have also heard the second freaks track and the mountain people track from the mix in question as they were pretty ubiquitous the past couple of years. the mix also has the same stoned dj talk that dj t's mix for gpm used (i don't know if that's part of the monne automne track or not)

tricky, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 22:49 (fifteen years ago) link

is that cd part of the ridiculous 6 part thing they released last year? i'd like to hear those but never bothered getting them

Local Garda, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 22:50 (fifteen years ago) link

yup. the mathias tanzmann is really good as well. his mix for that series is actually what made me go back the album he put out last year and recommend it on the other thread. i haven't even dug into the second discs of either comp (i got part 1 and part 3). well, i did give the melchior a cursory listen, but i haven't yet played it without multitasking at the same time.

tricky, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 22:59 (fifteen years ago) link

(xxxxxpost) i don't like that he's macho and arrogant, it just happened to make for a good interview. it's obviously some type of act for the media, and it was funny- regardless of whether or not he's just cranky. when it comes down to it, it's much more entertaining to read this than another stale interview with some obsessive german minimal house producer.

plus, i actually find bill o'reilly pretty amusing. he makes me laugh more than jon stewart, anyway. for instance, did you see the expose he did about san francisco? laugh riot.

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Thursday, 5 February 2009 21:24 (fifteen years ago) link

it's much more entertaining to read this than another stale interview with some obsessive german minimal house producer.

or instead of two sides of the same coin of clichés we could read an in depth interview with someone who hates some things, likes some things, you know...or at least read comments about interviews that were not just 2d.

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 February 2009 21:35 (fifteen years ago) link

i think he'll get more attention because of that 2d sensationalism. not that this is ethically better or anything, but hopefully it'll sell some records for the guy.

in no way would i be behind his type of talk if the music wasn't almost good enough to back it up

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:00 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah no it's true he'll get more attention. it's a name game lol.

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:04 (fifteen years ago) link

So basically Omar-S could have come out and said that he believes domestic violence is justified and people in this thread would have been like "loooool what a riot! So much more interesting than those obsessive Germans and their tired emphasis on gender parity!"

Tim F, Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:05 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^this is exactly what I feel about this

"he swears, he speaks the truth, who can trust positivity"

there's a reason people like Bill O'Reilly have a "no spin zone".

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:33 (fifteen years ago) link

feigning ignorance about ricardo villalobos is akin to endorsing domestic violence? i sorta see what you're saying (and maybe egged it on with the o'reilly thing) but still that's quite a leap. this is a much different type of sensationalism

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Sure, my point is simply that this thread's reactions seem almost pavlovian in their "whatever, guy's a dude!" oblivious boosterism, and justifying that by reference to some strawman boring german simply makes the whole thing seem more pipecock-engineered.

is your cap'n' save-a-willalobos act any less pavlovian??

eman, Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:56 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't give a toss about him not knowing who Villalobos is. People praising someone for swearing a lot and "telling it like it is" or cos "he doesn't give a fuck" is the lame thing.

Not giving a fuck is pretty easy.

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:57 (fifteen years ago) link

xxxxposts

the melchior disc is brutally minimal (in the plip-plop sense) until around the last third when it smooths out a bit and gets housier, much like his live djing it's nothing special.

rio (r1o natsume), Thursday, 5 February 2009 23:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah it's actually perfectly believable that omar-s doesn't know who villalobos is. And i don't have a problem with his interview per se.

Tim F, Thursday, 5 February 2009 23:01 (fifteen years ago) link

wonder how theo parrish feels about being referred to as just part of a "name game" lol

eman, Thursday, 5 February 2009 23:23 (fifteen years ago) link

proud?

blunt, Thursday, 5 February 2009 23:58 (fifteen years ago) link

yesterday i had no idea that the revive of this thread was based on the interview. i read it today and found it to be very enjoyable.

re the circo loco mixes, another reason i like both of the mixes i mentioned so much is that they sound like actual dj sets you'd hear at a club unlike a lot of mix cd fodder these days.

tricky, Friday, 6 February 2009 00:00 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah. re:profanity, this is how the man talks and the interview is unedited in that respect. pretty sure you'd get much worse out of say, dave clarke if you didn't edit the fucks out of it.

blunt, Friday, 6 February 2009 00:01 (fifteen years ago) link

has anyone here heard him play at fabric? it must be nuts.
