Album cover reminds me of pre-dreads Bobby McFerrin.

on spotify. like his last full release, couple of good songs and a whole bunch of snoozers.

This album is the best and I'm loving his straightup house stuff as Les Sins too

i still really like the sound of this record
― ciderpress, Friday, 26 April 2013 15:11 (eleven years ago) link
The single off this is probably my least favourite song of the year, that glitchy bit at the end is so hamfisted.

which track?
― sandra dayo connor (The Reverend), Friday, 26 April 2013 18:19 (eleven years ago) link
i like that the rev got really into toro y moi. i didn't like anything in return as much as he did, but i was really into underneath the pine . like "still sound": so good! anyway, respect.

Anything in Return still(!) hasn't left my regular rotation. It's prob one of my two or three most played albums in the past couple years.
― The Reverend, Sunday, 21 September 2014 06:55 (nine years ago) link
I only really got that into the singles from the Underneath the Pine tho.
His new Les Sins album is on Spotify now and is amazing: http://open.spotify.com/album/16PFsm0wvfvsv2pEE6eies
Some nods to Funkadelic and Nas in there.

Early return: it's split between Royal Scam-ish jazz rock and Big Star power pop. Obviously very 70s sounding. I dig it, but I'm also biased toward anyone who knows their way around a 7th chord.

I think this new one is his best since Causers
― calstars, Sunday, 5 April 2015 11:27 (nine years ago) link
no way I haven't heard the new one yet but each of his first three was better than the last
― The Reverend, Sunday, 5 April 2015 22:23 (nine years ago) link
okayyyyyy just gonna have to call a no on this album. It just isn't what I want from him at all, it feels like such a regression from the more interesting direction he was going. I don't fucking need more classic rock in my life.

New one out todayIs it just me or does this guy's music get less exciting with every release?
― calstars, Friday, 7 July 2017 10:49 (six years ago) link
Like his vocal melodies mostly seem very similar and almost monotone
