fuck, Oasis were a thousands of times better singles band than Blink 182.

...this decade?

They're definitely the best rock act for doing karaoke to from the last decade.

It's True!!!

"For over a decade, Blink-182 has toured, recorded and done non-stop promotion all while trying to balance relationships with family and friends.

To that end, the band has decided to go on an indefinite hiatus to spend some time enjoying the fruits of their labors with their loved ones. While there is no set plan for the band to begin working together again, no one knows what tomorrow may bring."

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 01:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Hello there the angel from my nightmare
The shadow in backround of the morgue
The unsespecting victim of darkness in the valley
We can live like Jack and Sally if we want
Where you can always find me
And we'll have Halloween on Christmas
And in the night we'll wish this never ends
We'll wish this never end

Where are you and I'm so sorry
I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness comes creeping on so haunting everytime
And as I stared I counted the webs from all the spiders
catching things and eating their insides
Like indecision to call you
And hear your voice of treason
Will you come home and stop this pain tonight
stop this pain tonight

Don't waste your time on me your already the voice inside my head(6x)

I miss you miss you(6x)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 01:30 (nineteen years ago) link

It would be cool if they split up into three seperate bands: Blink-13,
Blink-7, and Blink-2.

shieldforyoureyes, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 01:51 (nineteen years ago) link

when TRL did a news segment about the "indefinite hiatus" today they pretty much went out and assumed that it automatically means they're breaking up for good and did a sentimental montage and graphics that said stuff like "RIP 1993-2005", which I thought was a bit presumptuous.

their last album was pretty good. well, the best songs were the singles, but there were 4 really good singles. I'd kinda like to see what would happen if they kept going in that direction with another album.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 02:01 (nineteen years ago) link

noooo!

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 02:04 (nineteen years ago) link

yesterday i thought of starting a band called Blink 183. could i get away with it?

what about Blank 183?

LaToya JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 02:57 (nineteen years ago) link

"All the Small Things" was so great.

al or whoever, what were the best singles from the last album? I sort of ignored it when it came out bcuz i presumed they were getting all "mature" and i didn't like the sound of it.

djdee (djdee2005), Sunday, 27 February 2005 23:31 (nineteen years ago) link

"Down" and "Always" were the last 2 that weren't real big but I loved.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:08 (nineteen years ago) link

also the track that "Down" segues into on the album, "The Fallen Interlude" is the shit

Al (sitcom), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:22 (nineteen years ago) link

"Always" wasn't great. Good, maybe. "Feeling This" and "Down" were best, and "I Miss You" was pretty awesome also.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:22 (nineteen years ago) link

"Always" is the first song from an album I've sold back that I regretted not burning later. Damn video got me hooked on it. Never felt "Down." "Always" might be my favorite single of the four right now.

miccio (miccio), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:24 (nineteen years ago) link

I only kept "Feeling This," "I Miss You" and "Obvious" when I took it back.

miccio (miccio), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:25 (nineteen years ago) link

"Feeling This" is fairly underrated, I feel--it's kind of messy, but all the better for it, I think, and the harmonies at the end of the song bring tears to my eyes.

Huh. You must not be much of a Cure fan if you didn't at least save those last three tracks, Anthony.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:50 (nineteen years ago) link

this really brings me down

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:53 (nineteen years ago) link

haha didn't we just have an evaluation of Anthony's Cure fandom on another thread already today? I don't really know much Cure but I like the Robert Smith track a lot.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Blink 182 songs worth keeping:

M&Ms
Apple Shampoo
I Miss You

The rest is shit, in fact, worst-band-in-the-world shit. How they managed to make three great singles, I'll never know.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:26 (nineteen years ago) link

All the Small Things belongs at the top of every blink pox eveer.

djdee (djdee2005), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:38 (nineteen years ago) link

Al (sitcom), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:53 (nineteen years ago) link

Blink-182 breaking up now is moot. The damage has already been done...

poortheatre (poortheatre), Monday, 28 February 2005 07:01 (nineteen years ago) link

one month passes...
I think of them as being kind of a modern day The Knack. Critically reviled by many critics, immature themes and sappy ballads to get the girls. But twenty years from now it won't be too much to say you liked a few songs by them.

Cunga (Cunga), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 08:05 (nineteen years ago) link

I never really noticed them until I heard the version of "Miss You" on Future Soundtrack to America. It's damn good. I might pick up the inevitable singles comp based on that song and "All the Small Things."

Lyra Jane (Lyra Jane), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 13:49 (nineteen years ago) link

"I Miss You", "Dammit", and "Stay Together For The Kids" will be canonized a decade from now.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 13:54 (nineteen years ago) link

i missed the break-up completely! oops.

still, agreed that the best-of will have a fair few killer tracks on it.

but were they better than ash as a rock singles band? of course not.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 13:59 (nineteen years ago) link

but were they better than ash as a rock singles band? of course not.

"Kung-Fu" should've been massive everywhere.

"I Miss You", "Dammit", and "Stay Together For The Kids" will be canonized a decade from now.

"All the Small Things" moreso than any of these, but if there's any justice, yeah, this'll be true.

but were they better than ash as a rock singles band? of course not.

This is a fucking tough call. Ash probably gets the edge, but really not by that much. A fairly worthy comparison in any event.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 14:06 (nineteen years ago) link

They were/are one of those bands that grew on me like a slow fungus -- at first dismissed as Green Day rips but later realized that I didn't mind when the singles came on the radio. Never got to the stage where I needed to own anything they did though.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 14:08 (nineteen years ago) link

Am I alone in the "What's My Age Again?" lovin'? I see it as the apogee of juvenile funny kiddie-punk, and a genuinely fine tune too.

"I said I was the cops/and your husband's in jail/the state looks down on sodomy"

Problem with teen pop punk acts is that they rarely age gracefully. Both Blink 182 and their fans are too old now and this record doesn't show much maturity. Back when 'I miss you' came out I was excited to hear where they'd go next, that songs sounds much more mature at least sound-wise than the rest of their catalogue. Then they disbanded and here we are trying to revive old glories.
