Yes! Is this the most pretencious, overrated band of all time?

84. The Rolling Stones. To me they are no more than just overrated jerks who write melodically dead emotionally dry music. The most overrated band I know of, actually. The Rolling Stones receive way too much praise and credit for everything from influence to the quality of their hooks. I'd give them a one at best. That said, there are a bunch of Stones songs that I do like (even a couple that I love) and I can easily say Beggar's Banquet is a really good album, but for the most part they really leave me cold. Sorry, this is just how I feel.

does that Amazon guy know the Replacements also called an album Let It Be? Didn't they know the Beatles already had an album with that title? The Replacements are overrated!

replacements? more like replacement beatles amirite??

clouds, Friday, 3 May 2013 12:59 (eleven years ago) link

yeah. and it's not like they were just ripping off the Beatles either - they also had an album called Tim. Obviously they got the idea from Tim Owens, who also called an album Tim. Same title once could have been a coincidence, but twice? Not buying, the Replacements were such copycats.

As far as I can tell, it's fairly generic electro-house that's been aped a vast number of times. I don't see what all the fuss is about.

I don't mean to sound like a hipster when I say this, but Daft Punk just did it first, which is why it seems generic. The duo has been making music since the 90's and has influenced countless artists

4. Dave Matthews Band: I understand girls think he's hot, so they kind of get a pass. But guys who like this dude need therapy. I've been told he sounds like a goat, and I agree with that assessment. I hear he gives a great performance, but I gotta be honest with you, if he were playing in my basement, I wouldn't check it out.

3. U2: Here's another band I love. They did some great things, but they've also done a lot of mediocre stuff. Also, I'm sick of hearing what great people these guys are, or at least Bono is. If I want a tree planted, I'll hire a gardener. I want music and I couldn't care less about the environment.

2. Nirvana: A lot of groups on this list are groups I love. Nirvana is possibly my least liked band of all time. They stink. They also made it cool to wear flannel and fat guys look atrocious in that garb. I like alternative music, but this group never had a song I liked. I'd much rather listen to Kurt Cobain's wife, Courtney Love, sing with Hole than listen to this group. They stink!

1. The Beatles: This will get me shredded and I'm ready to take the brunt of your criticism. The Beatles are the most overrated entertainers in the history of the world. Were they good? Yes. Were they great? Yes. Did they change music? Absolutely. Did they change the world? No. They didn't. They were a group that did a nice job and had a lot of great songs, but they weren't gods. They were just a good music group. And I am so sick and tired of younger people (under 40) who pretend they love this group. People who are obsessed with the Beatles do it because they think it's cool. They couldn't be more wrong.

bored of canada
why the hell did i buy this album? boc are on autopilot here. i can' stand the ominous, swirling sound anymore. the crescendoes make me think of godspeed, a band i'd rather never listen to again in my life. there is also something totalitarian wagner-like in their heavy music which used to attract me in the past. the melodic parts are just too beautiful, too glistening. they seem to waste their time trying to hide a deep, mysterious meaning under their more and more generic music which simply isn't there. it's just totally hollow and daft. they do not advance. they have their complex recipe which always yields the same thick soup. the first time it was very tasty but it has become lukewarm and stale by now. i can't take them anymore. the worst is the counting and number-dropping. how bloody unoriginal. it would have been ok to do it once but it seems to be an essential part of their shtick. this album is not only superfluous and repetitive like hell, it is simply awful pretentious rubbish. i still cannot forgive myself that their marketing and this thread lured me into buying the cd.

ha – the absolute assured tone yet meaningless criticisms made me think that post was itself a c&p from another board, but apparently not.

98. Velvet Underground. Any band with a chick for a drummer (especially an UGLYY one) is guaranteed to be shit. A woman's place isn't behind the drum kit - it's backstage, keeping the food trays stocked and rolling doobs in preparation for the MUSICIANS.

99. Charles Mingus. Someone should've bought the dude a Jaco Pastorious album to teach him some REAL bass playing.

100. Can. More like CAN'T, amirite? Germans and a Japanese in collaboration...hmm, why does that sound familiar?

101. Miles Davis. More like Miles GAYvis, amirite? I mean, why else would anybody want to play such a gay-ass instrument as the flute? Or the clarinet or whatever, who cares.

102. Roxy Music. More ugly chicks!

What happened-------to REAL BLACK MUSIC

We use to have real Black music artist, that had real talent----and they made us proud

They carried themselves with RESPECT, on stage

We had great music artist like----Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Mavin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Donnie Hathaway, Curtis Mayfield, The Gap Band, Cameo, Earth Wind and Fire, etc

And those Black music artist, put a real message in their songs

1. But today Black music artist, have become a DISGRACE

2. The songs are so foul, and nasty

3 The men are acting like----Pimps, Thugs, and clowns

4. And the women female artist, are acting like Whores

5. None of the Black music artist today, are putting an uplifting message in their songs

What HAPPENED to real Black music

And how did it get to this point

Marvin Gaye----has a song called, What's Going Own. Where he speaks out against WAR

Marvin Gaye----has a song called Mercy Mercy Me, where he talks about OIL SPILLS, and enviromental problems

Marvin Gaye-----has a song called Make Me Wanna Holler, where he speak out against the Government, for mistreating people

1. Is JOHN LEGEND making socially conscious songs like that

2. Is Usher or NEO, making socially conscious songs like that
