xp -- yeah, at BE#2 I caught up with Ashley Capps and thanked him for a festival that didn't take a day and a half of travel time each way. He said FIMAV was kind of in his mind when he started conceiving BE.

man, one of my dreams is to get together with SASSAS or dublab or some other hub of socal experimental music and assemble a festival like this for los angeles. an anti-coachella.

Ashley rules, glad he's redoubling his efforts on this festival and I wish I could go.

I often fantasize about helping organize one for New York. I think the two biggest problems are
A) New Yorkers are generally spoiled fucking babies and go "ennngh I can see [band] any time" whenever someone brings an amazing festival to their doorstep (ie, see ATP's troubles in NYC)
B) The cost of putting up, say, Merzbow or Neubauten or Dead C or whoever in a hotel is way more cost prohibitive in NYC than, say, Knoxville or Hopscotch's North Carolina

let's do it in colorado. cheap, centrally located, w33d.

I just got the email about daily tickets -- is that for people who just want to go to one day OR does a person need to secure tickets on top of buying the weekend pass? I'm confused.

i am basically thinking about this festival in every spare moment because i need something to look forward to!

Wish I was going to this, but a bad time for me. Hope to hear some serious reports though.

New daydream -- Church of Anthrax reunion (Terry Riley was at the last festival, right? It's not inconceivable?)

Has there ever been an American festival that has pulled off an avant thing of this scale?

Maybe the old New Music America festivals in the 80s/early 90s (if they lasted that long)? That tended to be more classical avant-garde focused, but not exclusively.

Weirdly underdocumented online. I'm sure most of the shows were videotaped, but there's hardly anything on youtube. Not finding pdfs of programs either. The only one I went to was the Philadelphia festival, in 1987.
