Big Ears Festival 2014 [Knoxville, TN] -- Reich, Cale, Ribot & more...

ok phew -- i was bracing myself for a mad rush to secure more tickets
i am basically thinking about this festival in every spare moment because i need something to look forward to!

Wish I was going to this, but a bad time for me. Hope to hear some serious reports though.

New daydream -- Church of Anthrax reunion (Terry Riley was at the last festival, right? It's not inconceivable?)

Has there ever been an American festival that has pulled off an avant thing of this scale?

Maybe the old New Music America festivals in the 80s/early 90s (if they lasted that long)? That tended to be more classical avant-garde focused, but not exclusively.

Weirdly underdocumented online. I'm sure most of the shows were videotaped, but there's hardly anything on youtube. Not finding pdfs of programs either. The only one I went to was the Philadelphia festival, in 1987.

alright well i guess i'll just drive straight from home to the show then
i can't leave home any earlier than friday morning, unfortunately

the official schedule's not being released until sometime tomorrow. lots of weird gaps on there now—i'm curious about how they get filled.

^ my doom/black metal band Argentinum Astrum are playing this local companion to Big Ears on Sunday night after Big Ears wraps up iirc. If anyone cares. Also there are other cool things like a gear sale/swap happening in conjunction with it, so stop by the Pilot Light on your downtime from Big Ears if you get any. It's a cool place and lots of cool stuff is going on.

We're driving up tomorrow, hope to get there by 6. Might get my packet/wristband tomorrow evening, maybe Friday lunch-ish. I will be be meeting up with friends London Dave and Atlanta Scott, but assume ILX and non-ILX groups will cross-pollinate at least a little, esp since Crüt knows Scott.

I'm a little bummed that the Sunday Reich hoedown is going to be reserved seating (I assume everybody got that email). Maybe some seat swapping can happen.
