there's a certain type of english person that would normally use 'shit' to describe something they don't like, then they use 'shite' for extra dismissiveness when they want to dismiss something for being pretentious and overrated

Overrated shite music Jun. 27th, 2007 @ 12:03 PM Reply

So last night in the pub I managed to get chatting to a couple of girls. They were not exactly stunners but beggars can't be choosers, and as a sailor, im always a dirty fucking beggar.

The conversation topic changed to music, festivals, concerts and such like which suited me to the bone.

And then it turns out that both of them were avid Artic Monkeys fans.
"Your shtting me right? They are the most overrated pile of wank i've ever heard!"
I spluttered in disgust.

Things went downhill from there, and shortly after they left. No chance of me getting my end away which is always a pity. I'm annoyed that I broke my own rules and instead of agreeing with them that the Artic Monkeys are "amasing" I made my disdain for them more than clear. In this case however I dont feel I could lie without extreme sarcasm.

I use 'shite' quite a lot, but usually to dismiss something as being a clueless type of inept shit.

The title of the Kate Bush album is enough to make you throw up.

As well as Elton. Fucking. John.

And Stephen. Cunting. Fry.

Has it got Nick Clegg on bongos to round it off?

50 words for shite.

Basically, Brian Eno is the producer you call when you are a pretentious wanker and want to “art up” your music to give it some semblance of lasting significance. Other artists who have worked with Eno in the past: well-known pretentious wankers U2 and Coldplay, and solo pretentious wanker David Byrne (whose pretentious wankerdom was reined in by the earthy grooves and commitment to pop of his breakthrough band, Talking Heads).

As you might have predicted, Eno’s influence on Bowie led him to make two of his worst records, “Low” and “Heroes.” These albums have become recognized as two of the biggest scams in rock history: in an era of two-sided LPs, only the first side of “Low” or “Heroes” contained “rock songs;” the second side was entirely padded with instrumental filler.

Here is the full text of Mr Hawkes' letter:

"I played viola on Kate Bush’s last LP, and laughed myself silly at her nonsensical lyrics about snowmen. The obsequious, unquestioning critical acclaim heaped upon this manifestly overrated singer is rather depressing, and summed up by your reviewer when he describes an audience who “spend the first part of the show clapping everything; no gesture is too insignificant to warrant applause”. Enough said."

Radiohead sucks. Period. There is no 'revolutionary art' in either OK Computer or Kid A. It is trash. It really is. I'm tired of all those damn psuedo-intelegencia music fans that think they know the shit, and think Radiohead is at the height of Avant-Garde. Dumb asses.

Emporors new clothes music.

I've been attempting to hear the 'soul' in his music for 20 years to no avail, all I hear is tedious joyless keyboard demos forged by a great self-promoter with a deft knack for pushing a genre creation myth to people who desperately want dance music to be more than the sum of its parts.

5) Preferred albums for me would be LIVING IN THE PAST, The Carnegie Hall concert, one particular bootleg from '68 with Martin's Tune on it, and --strangely--the Chateau D'Isaster recording, which would have sounded just as lousy as Passion Play if they'd actually finished it back then. It sounds vast and symphonic now because by the time he released it Anderson had discovered reverb. Also because he's not SINGING--and here's what you realize when you listen to it: the longer the band went on, the more Anderson started to write vocal lines in terms of his instrument; so what sounds magisterial when played on flute on NIGHTCAP just sounds crap when sung on Passion Play

there you go, for what it's worth. I'm going back to my White Stripes album now.

Is FLAC content overrated?

I really think so.

After more than a year of collecting FLAC content, today I have given up. 4-8 times more storage is required to store the FLAC content, the the difference is barely 2-5%. Only the very lows and highs have a minor difference.

The highs and lows are sharpish on MP3s, 192/320 kbps, doesn't make a hell lot of difference. And to feel the differences you really have to hear the content in full volume. Half volume the difference is minimalistic. Maybe I don't have the best ears.

Anyone else feel the same way?

My ears are fucked. For example, i can't hear any difference between GG Allin at 96 kbits per sec or in Flac

The SCG I heard made no impact whatsoever. And I always hated Zappa for his overwhelmingly bullshit "everyone is stupid except me" schtick. And for his "technical facility = 'good' music" aesthetic.

Christian Fennesz, a pop-rock specialist from Austria, was introducing a vast electronic soundscape reportedly predicated on impulses derived from Gustav Mahler. In the process, he clutched a guitar, aka Fender Stratocaster, that could be seen if hardly heard.

His music – term used broadly, advisedly and wincingly – entailed deafening roars, blasts, riffs and rattles (mostly roars) that dulled the senses as they bludgeoned the ears. Some aficionados obviously appreciate this sort of thing. One hopes they understand it. For others, comprehension remains elusive.

The Mahler connection, in any case, required explanation via pretentious technobabble in the programme magazine.

I AM STANLEY KUBRICK I AM SO FREAKING YOU OUT RIGHT NOW LOL. That's what I hear, in my head, during that stupid slow-motion blood spilling out of the walls shot in Shining.
