Bry's a big fan of country squire pursuits e.g. fox hunting, which pushes a lot of buttons for some people over here

Angkor Waht (Neil S), Friday, 30 May 2014 15:16 (ten years ago) link

it's not just the tory stuff although that is a very valid stick to beat him with. his voice is unlistenable and what i've heard of roxy music is terrible as well

lex pretend, Friday, 30 May 2014 15:29 (ten years ago) link

yes, there's also the "unlistenable" nature of Roxy Music, as lex has scientifically proven in his post above

Angkor Waht (Neil S), Friday, 30 May 2014 15:32 (ten years ago) link

being serious, Lex have you heard Avalon, their final record? It might be more palatable than their earlier art rock stuff.

Angkor Waht (Neil S), Friday, 30 May 2014 15:37 (ten years ago) link

^ good point. i can understand you not liking things like Street Life, but the Avalon album is totally pleasant and wonderful.

I don't particularly like Roxy Music either and Ferry was the second most-talented person called Bryan/Brian in the band, and come on no one cares about Bryan Ferry solo, and his voice is usually this dreary instrument, but the Johnny & Mary cover is actually quite affecting. A lot of it is down to the arrangement, but Ferry doesn't croon as much as he usually does.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 May 2014 16:37 (ten years ago) link

You can slate Ferry's voice but I'd never describe it as dreary. One of the most dynamic and idiosyncratic styles in rock, if say. Anyway never mind.

I'd say, not if say

this might have been mentioned somewhere on this long thread but... i was talking to my norwegian friend abt todd terje & he was saying how the guy who runs the state radio station had refused to play terje's stuff because it 'sounds like beach bar music'. thats when he went & put out 'strandbar' (which means beach bar in norwegian)

just sayin, Monday, 2 June 2014 12:55 (ten years ago) link

three weeks pass...

thinking about getting some hypnotherapy to get Svensk Sås out of my head, it's been a month

Every time I listen to this album I like it less and less, I think that if I didn't know Strandbar/Inspector Norse before listening to it I would probably have given up on it by four tracks in and filed it alongside the Aeroplane album.

it's not a fedora, it's a trill bae (m bison), Wednesday, 2 July 2014 03:07 (nine years ago) link

Inspector Norse is the only song that still seems separate from the rest album to me. The rest of it flows really well and works as a whole. It's been the perfect soundtrack to some long walks in the sun recently and even though there's been some other albums I've enjoyed a lot this year, this is still by far my favourite.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 03:21 (nine years ago) link

i actually find i like it more and more, i've really gotten quite fond of it as a whole

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 2 July 2014 13:32 (nine years ago) link

I like it a lot as a whole, but also I threw about the half the tracks into a playlist with a bunch of other stuff, and they all sound great on their own too. Actually helps to hear them in isolation.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 2 July 2014 13:40 (nine years ago) link

finally heard this played out at a party this weekend; I was standing outside since it was ungodly hot on the floor, but as soon as it started happening I bolted back inside. VERY glad I did, this song is ridiculously fun to dance to.

ogmor, Monday, 18 August 2014 15:12 (nine years ago) link

wild how this thread came out repping for the relatively underwhelming snooze 4 love, which came out right before his true anthem & classic inspector norse

snooze owns

socki (s1ocki), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 13:04 (nine years ago) link

I still prefer Snooze 4 Love to any of his other output

nxd, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 13:07 (nine years ago) link

"Snooze" has def grown on me. Almost everything he's done since has been an immediate sugar rush.

i'm in the snooze crew

he's better at "snooze 4 love" style subtlety than at sugar rushes imo

lex pretend, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 16:36 (nine years ago) link

snooze is right!

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 17:06 (nine years ago) link

get it

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 17:06 (nine years ago) link

deej did you somehow miss the MASTERPIECE ALERT that was put out?

╲╱\/╲/\╱╲╱\/\ (gr8080), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 17:07 (nine years ago) link

it was premature, obv 'inspector norse' is the actual masterpiece, snooze 4 love is a middling house record in comparison

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 17:21 (nine years ago) link

I think we can say Terje has/had more than one masterpiece in him.

It's Autumn Sunrise (Eric H.), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 18:31 (nine years ago) link

I am a Todd Terje fan. His music is quite good. I dig it.

Terje made masterpieces years before this thread was started, QED:

I'm actually going to be in the UK for this, but not necessarily in London. Thinking I should alter my plans.

octobeard, Friday, 22 August 2014 20:44 (nine years ago) link

Also, I'm going to the show tonight in SF. Definitely will be crowded, but bros? I'm expecting the same type of crowd that showed up for the James Murphy DJ sets

octobeard, Friday, 22 August 2014 20:46 (nine years ago) link

Yeah dunno, I had a bad experience at the last John Talabot dj set there. Maybe I'm just getting old.

ugh (lukas), Friday, 22 August 2014 21:11 (nine years ago) link

I'm guessing that his set in SF tonight will be more expansive and enjoyable than the hour he's booked to play at FYF Fest tomorrow (where I will be seeing him even though the asslord in charge of booking decided his set should overlap with Run The Jewels).

is he djing or just laptopping his new album

brimstead, Saturday, 23 August 2014 02:09 (nine years ago) link
