A personal fave.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 27 August 2014 18:50 (nine years ago) link

Oooh, Havana Affair! That's the first one off my ballot. That was my favorite from the s/t for a long time. "Now I'm a guy for the C.I.A." Such a perfectly dumb lyric. The riff is so great and dark too.

how's life, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 18:56 (nine years ago) link

"It's Not My Place" barely missed my ballot. My second favorite from Pleasant Dreams after We Want the Airwaves. I don't feel like it's my place in the 9 to 5 world now.

how's life, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 19:00 (nine years ago) link

Yay @ "It's Not My Place." The find of the poll for me (had never listened to Pleasant Dreams before).

MaudAddam (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 27 August 2014 19:00 (nine years ago) link

I'd like to apologize right now for only including two post-EOTC tracks, those albums deserved better but I did not have the time to do serious listening

sleeve, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 19:12 (nine years ago) link

I reviewed Pleasant Dreams, but a copy is at best sitting in the morgue of a defunct student paper.

Too low!

Keep it glowing, glowing,glowing
I'm not hurting anyone
Keep it glowing, smoking, glowing
I'm howling at the moon

(My #2)

how's life, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 19:56 (nine years ago) link

I see that I only voted for "Howling at the Moon" and "California Sun" so far. "She's the One" and "It's Not My Place" were probably near misses.

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 27 August 2014 20:00 (nine years ago) link

She's The One is so great.

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 20:07 (nine years ago) link

Ha, I just now realized those two are actually tied -- so they should both be 30. Oops.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 27 August 2014 20:09 (nine years ago) link

I think you've done it right: more votes breaks ties.

clemenza, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 20:11 (nine years ago) link

Howling at the Moon my #2 as well.

Orange stick-person = Ramones; green and black stick-people = rest of world.

clemenza, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 21:24 (nine years ago) link

i voted for that one. also: california sun, i remember you and its not my place.

might've voted for howling at the moon and i want you around if i heard them.

havana affair was the last to drop from my list i think.

I have a website, Glen is very active on Facebook. (cajunsunday), Wednesday, 27 August 2014 21:41 (nine years ago) link

Wikipedia: ""Don't Come Close" uses elements which can also be heard in country music, such as twang.[8]"

there are few songs that are more fun to sing in an exaggerated Joey voice than "Pet Sematary" imo

I'll pause there. We'll go through #11 tomorrow, top 10 on Friday.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 28 August 2014 02:13 (nine years ago) link

One of their funniest lines: "We can't go surfin' 'cause it's 20 below."

clemenza, Thursday, 28 August 2014 02:14 (nine years ago) link

"Commando" was in my top five! This doesn't bode well for some of my other choices.

"commando" is top 5 ramones, i don't see how there can be any other interpretation

Adding ease. Adding wonder. Adding (contenderizer), Thursday, 28 August 2014 02:33 (nine years ago) link

"Don't Come Close" and "Pet Sematary" both on my ballot. I also had "Dannys Says" as my #3. So TOO LOW to alla these!

bunny slopes, Thursday, 28 August 2014 06:43 (nine years ago) link

I can only imagine that 1 more of my top ten will make it in at this point and it'll probably be in the next 5.

how's life, Thursday, 28 August 2014 13:00 (nine years ago) link

danny says was my #2

cajunsunday, Thursday, 28 August 2014 13:05 (nine years ago) link

Wasn't Loco Live the album that they recorded in stadiums in South America? I thought that was a bad choice. That environment seemed to suck the life out of those songs. I know they had a huge, enthusiastic following down there, but live punk rock albums should not be recorded in huge outdoor venues. Greatest Hits Live (despite the piss poor title) is a great live Ramones album, recorded in a club in NYC.

It was recorder in Barcelona, Spain. And it includes the best into ever, "Have any of you seen Stephen King's Pet Semetary? Well then you might just know this next tune, it's entitled Pet Semetary!"

Oh man, I love this one but it didn't make my ballot. Glad to see it place.

how's life, Thursday, 28 August 2014 14:06 (nine years ago) link

The middle eight where Dee Dee comes in is kinda heartbreaking. Like I said on the voting thread, I think it's most autobiographical song.

Joey's pronunciation is so weird. BICE-mehhhnt.

Some people (Christgau, e.g.) hate this one. I kinda love it. I think this and "Danny Says" are the two times on the album that the Spectorisms really pay off.
