ha, that Bird & Bee one is nice but sounds too much like this alphabet learning tape we had for my little brother...
"we're the pixies from the wood.."

Really liking this: Kleerup + Susanne Sundfør

https://soundcloud.com/kleerup/kleerup-let-me-in-feat-susanne-sundfor/

although "“Let Me In” will be impossible to evade in the coming months as it leads a global H&M campaign which is complemented by visuals directed by the legendary Jonas Åkerlund" :(

that Hearts one sounds like 'Stop Whispering' by Radiohead

kinder, Saturday, 6 September 2014 15:26 (nine years ago) link

that new kleerup is really good

Fully listened to that Thomas Barfod album today while driving around running errands and "Busy Baby" required repeated listens when I got to that wicked deep bass synth in the choruses.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 6 September 2014 23:37 (nine years ago) link

That Tomas Barford album is really good but it's the Nina K collaboration tracks that are outstanding.

three weeks pass...

I predict Johnny Fever will dig this:

Bertie Blackman - Run For Your Life
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qczcJqyiRQ

TTAGGGTTAGGG (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 1 October 2014 17:56 (nine years ago) link

Yep!

I've listened to some Bertie Blackman on soundcloud before, but had never heard this track before. So great!

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 18:05 (nine years ago) link

This is nice too: http://soundcloud.com/bertieblackman/war-of-one

An oddball from Mr. Twin Sister's s/t album, which is mostly Sade-esque dreampop.

Bedroom mutant r&b/pop thing from Australia. I'm not sure yet how much I like it, but I keep relistening to it when it's over.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 6 October 2014 01:50 (nine years ago) link

The intro and chorus are dope. Not sure about the verse. Kinda sounds like a lo-fi Jessy Lanza or even AlunaGeorge.

daavid, Monday, 6 October 2014 02:11 (nine years ago) link

I'm digging this.

I think the latest Eternal Death single is my favorite so far. Looking forward to the album now.

Ooh that's good. She doesn't have my favorite voice, but I can cope.

Collabo between Bullion and Laura Groves. "Lay Back" is superb and the melodic hook of "Freedom of the Floor" reminds me of something I haven't been able to place, so I keep listening to it hoping it will jar my memory.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 16 October 2014 03:52 (nine years ago) link

Oh right, the project's name is Nautic.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 16 October 2014 03:52 (nine years ago) link

First release on the Test Pressing label:

It slipped right by me earlier this month, but there's finally an album from The Preatures called Blue Planet Eyes. Listening on Spotify right now and if you were ever a fan of "Is This How You Feel?" you'll probably be pretty happy with it.

I can't say I'm into the whole Russian Girl album, but this track from it is totally sublime. You may recognize her as one of the cadre of vocalists from Nouvelle Vague (or not).

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 26 October 2014 07:56 (nine years ago) link

More from the Arbutus Records hit factory that brought us Grimes. This may be the poppiest thing on the Lydia Ainsworth's debut Right From Real, which is for the most part a Glasser type affair:

I missed the Elliphant / MØ single when it came out. I like it a lot.

This is dope. Whole ep is dope as a matter of fact. As is the new single "Levitation" which is just a few days old.

Jones song is so good. Thanks!

sean gramophone, Sunday, 16 November 2014 23:13 (nine years ago) link

Right? I've probably listened to it 40 times since Wednesday.

More from the Swedish Alternative R&B pipe:

Ji Nilsson & Marlene ∞ - Love You Anyway
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez7fB0paaWg

TTAGGGTTAGGG (Sanpaku), Monday, 17 November 2014 18:41 (nine years ago) link

I'd heard Ji Nilsson's "Heartbreakfree," but it didn't do a lot for me. I like this a lot more.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 17 November 2014 20:07 (nine years ago) link

South of the border not pop / not indie:

Ximena Sariñana - "Sin Ti No Puede Estar Tan Mal"

Denmark, reliable as usual: Saint Cava - Forget

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 December 2014 23:30 (nine years ago) link

it's weird how they keep sending the worst Eurovision entries

death in Skegness (seandalai), Monday, 8 December 2014 23:33 (nine years ago) link

I wish I had a close personal relationship with Eurovision the way a lot of my non-US friends do. It seems like fun.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 8 December 2014 23:50 (nine years ago) link

The likes of Lordi and Conchita Wurst make it seem like the largest in-joke in entertainment. Margaret Berger was a guilty pleasure nominee last year who has a good production team on her more recent singles.

There's very definitely a Copenhagen sound, with Saint Cava following in the steps of downtempo Trentemoller, Lulu Rouge, and Mike Sheridan. Nice.

Ottbot jr (NickB), Saturday, 20 December 2014 00:52 (nine years ago) link

warning: it does have some laryngopharynx footage in that video that may make work colleagues wonder just wtf it is you're watching

Ottbot jr (NickB), Saturday, 20 December 2014 00:59 (nine years ago) link

Oh yes.

A kinda unique take on the the Portishead template of aged x crystalline.

definite kate-bush-in-her-quieter-moments sort of voice too

Ottbot jr (NickB), Saturday, 20 December 2014 01:06 (nine years ago) link

My work colleagues just assumed it was another prehensile vulva video.

could at least have the decency to groove (Sanpaku), Saturday, 20 December 2014 01:07 (nine years ago) link

phew, thank goodness for that

Ottbot jr (NickB), Saturday, 20 December 2014 01:09 (nine years ago) link

Australia, you guys. Last year, The Preatures scored with a nice Haim ripoff. Now, Megan Washington (fka just Washington) has hit with a ripoff of The Preatures ripping off Haim. Thievery, I'm down.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 22 December 2014 04:00 (nine years ago) link

I've found her supremely annoying in the past but haven't kept up with her recent work.

FYI that preatures album is quite good.

uxorious gazumping (monotony), Monday, 22 December 2014 04:29 (nine years ago) link

Her new album is really nice, but I've likewise not cared much about her in the past.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 22 December 2014 04:41 (nine years ago) link

definite kate-bush-in-her-quieter-moments sort of voice too

Claire Brentnall does little to dispel this comparison, even visually.

Not pop not indie in a Curve-esque sense:
