I'm a bit concerned with the lack of pfunkboy activity on this thread, actually. I would have thought he'd be all over this!

yeah I asked where he was on the ILX Milk Carton thread and got nothing

Οὖτις, Thursday, 6 November 2014 18:28 (nine years ago) link

Never mind the P-Funk poll, Hamilton Accies have been top of the Scottish Premiership for most of this season and he's not even around to gloat about that!

Yeah, that one is definitely going to be in the upper reaches of my ballot. Legendarily ripped off by the The Verve.

Just dropping by to make sure everybody votes for Grooveallegiance in their top 10.

That is all.

voodoo chili, Wednesday, 12 November 2014 18:09 (nine years ago) link

Ahh, it won't be in my top ten, probably, but it'll be in the top 50 somewhere. Probably top 30.

Mine's is together but is sitting on a shelf gathering dust because I can't lick into any sort of shape that pleases me... I'll probably just send the first 50 I thought of, should send it soon

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Thursday, 13 November 2014 18:39 (nine years ago) link

hey now I still have a week of listening here

sleeve, Thursday, 13 November 2014 18:47 (nine years ago) link

I gave up listening because it was confusing me too much

R. Stornoway (Tom D.), Thursday, 13 November 2014 18:49 (nine years ago) link

putting things in any kind of order is painful + somewhat arbitrary, seems unavoidable w this massive catalog. also hard to keep various songs straight (at least for me) as sometimes I remember certain riffs/phrases that pop up in multiple songs and I can't recall which title/version I was thinking of without going back and listening

Οὖτις, Thursday, 13 November 2014 18:51 (nine years ago) link

Kinda tearing up at the end of this bio where george visits gary shider on his deathbed

Οὖτις, Friday, 14 November 2014 21:46 (nine years ago) link

Normally with these polls I go through the artists albums as best as I can. I'm pretty sure I have around 25 P-Funk albums in my collection. It's pretty much going to be impossible to go through them all in time. Definitely have an idea of what will be going in my top 10. I have a big soft spot for a lot of their slower songs. Wizards of Finance, Together and Grooveallegiance will all do quite well on my list.

My nomination for a song I feel will get overlooked is the closing track on Computer Games. Such a great song.

Everyone plz vote for plenty of Electric Spanking. I'll probably have both "Funk Gets Stronger"s on my ballot, but the first and last tracks will be way up there as well:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezowHu_nxes

^^^ is my most favorite song. Skip the intro if you get annoyed by the funny voices and proceed straight to 1:17, when the actual song starts. But why would you wanna do that anyway?

Nice. I'm partial to the older stuff, but will be fun to rediscover later deep cuts.

Repeat after Bootsy:

Οὖτις, Monday, 17 November 2014 17:22 (nine years ago) link

everybody's too busy listening to Eagles' solo records

Οὖτις, Monday, 17 November 2014 17:24 (nine years ago) link

there's a smattering of decent tracks on the proliferation of early 90s P-Funk projects (Dope Dogs is underrated), always fond of this one:

Οὖτις, Monday, 17 November 2014 17:46 (nine years ago) link

seriously is anyone compiling ballots or did you all just give up

Οὖτις, Monday, 17 November 2014 20:13 (nine years ago) link

I'm totally working on one, but I'm close to giving up on my plan to get up to speed on P-Funk. As I posted upthread, I have maybe 10-15 P-Funk records, and that doesn't come close to scratching the surface.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 17 November 2014 20:32 (nine years ago) link

come on, it's not like there's any other music worth listening to

Οὖτις, Monday, 17 November 2014 20:37 (nine years ago) link

I'm doing a ballot. Not a 100-track ballot by any stretch, but a ballot.

Eric H., Monday, 17 November 2014 20:39 (nine years ago) link

Just submitted with 50+ tracks

voodoo chili, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 03:25 (nine years ago) link

ok got a couple more ballots in... keep 'em comin

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 18:05 (nine years ago) link

I've always considered myself a P-Funk fan but looking at the list of records up top is simply staggering. I realized that prior to this poll I've maybe heard 5 Funkadelic records front-to-back and at most 2 Parliaments, to say nothing of the many, many offshoots. That said, even if I end up with Maggot Brain occupying slots 20-1, I will vote.

man you guys are slackin - only 6 ballots in and just two days to go!

I know, I know

sleeve, Wednesday, 19 November 2014 16:57 (nine years ago) link

this poll has required a lot more listening than the others

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 19 November 2014 20:32 (nine years ago) link

OK, just sent my ballot!

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 20 November 2014 17:04 (nine years ago) link

Sent my lame, 23-song ballot. Couldn't do enough listening, so I just stuck with the records I've had long relationships with.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 20 November 2014 18:25 (nine years ago) link

wish I had the free time to listen to stuff and put together a ballot this week but I just do not

nakhchi little van (some dude), Thursday, 20 November 2014 18:34 (nine years ago) link

Should have my ballot in at some point in the next 24 hours.

Welcome To (Turrican), Thursday, 20 November 2014 19:30 (nine years ago) link

Only 8 ballots in. Take your dead asses home people

Οὖτις, Friday, 21 November 2014 02:47 (nine years ago) link

Just made a first attempt at a list. It came to 104 songs. It's all Parliament, Funkadelic and George solo so far. If I have time I need to relisten to some of the Bootsy albums and a couple of other side projects that I really like. I love that Chairmen of the Board album too but doesn't feel quite right to vote for it.
