I hate Scott Walker's voice. Sunn O))) were doing some interesting things on Soused, but Walker's Opera Man bullshit sank the whole thing. The whole second phase of his career has been one of the greatest Emperor's New Clothes scams of all time.

If I like ambient/atmospheric BM but found III to be too much of an undifferentiated wash, is there a chance that I might like this better?

the earth album has been at the top of my playlist ever since i bought it.
i have grown to enjoy the mark l tracks.
but the highlight is easily the track with rabia.
a full length of earth + her could be absolutely fantastic.
getting this album also prompted me to order more from his back catalogue, hex and angels of darkness pt2 - result.

the earth album was... fine? like good riffs and good singing but they didn't seem to interact in any way. and i fucking love mark lanegan. soused was an uncanny first listen but has been difficult to revisit even though it's like the shortest scott walker record in ages. darkspace yawwwwn

so far the top ten is a bummer 4 me

I gave Scott Walker a perfunctory vote but I haven't listened to it nearly enough. (Same with Bish Bosch.)

i think its a case of time of the year, the usual winter blues etc, that the earth album has hit my needs so well.

well, that and it sounds immense ...

What's wrong with the Godflesh production? Too compressed? I love the bass guitar tone in particular.

yeah, live show was totally killer. absolutely loved it.

it sounds waaaay too murky imo. case in point, the double bass drum sound on "impertrator" that just sounds like broadrick tapping on a mic, ugh

12m in, this Darkspace is sounding much better than III.

and I mean this record in particular. even the older godflesh recordings are mixed in a way where each element in the mix has more clarity than this one. (x-post)

I agree, Brad – not easy to listen to all the way through, but a stunning achievement nonetheless.

Even better than the 1st Triptykon and as great as his best work.

I still have a problem listening to the Triptykon in one sitting, it's so fucking long. Brilliant but I find it's better if I listen to half of it, do something else, come back and finish it. Black Snow always gets me back.

I have the 3x10" vinyl set so it doesnt seem long when I'm flipping the vinyl over constantly

xp I really wanted that version. A moment of silence in between each side would probably help.

not a hater but imo this album is okay

Yeah I'm definitely out of touch with most of ILX here, I don't think there are more than five records in my ballot of fifty that made the top 100.

yeah, generally, I don't much care for a lot that's placed that's on the stoner rock side of things but it's cool

btw there's only 7 points between #1 and #2. on the last day they swapped a few times

most of the bad reviews tended to come from those who were fb friends with the ex drummer funnily enough

its a very good album
