It looks like my first batch of nominations has been skipped. I guess if no one noticed that means no one was gonna vote for any of these albums so it doesn't really matter (except for me, since I can't vote for a few of my favs).

Dinsdale, Thursday, 15 January 2015 12:55 (nine years ago) link

shit I'd have maybe voted for New Bums or Ryley Walker.

It sucks that we missed those. I've added them all to the bottom of the albums list because we're past the point of fitting them in alphabetically, but feel free to vote for the ones you'd like to.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 15 January 2015 14:30 (nine years ago) link

Thanks JF. At least I'm guaranteed to get the most unique ballot award now.

Oh my god I think I forgot to vote for Gerard Way

I forgot to vote for the Homeboy Sandman track I nom'd but its not like it was gonna place anyway.

That shit right there is precedented. (cryptosicko), Thursday, 15 January 2015 15:48 (nine years ago) link

i did the voting, for albums at least. didn't really pay much attention to singles this year so i'll let the rest of ilm tell me what to like

been visiting the spotify nominated albums playlist and just hitting shuffle till i hear something that fits my mood, then immediately playing the whole thing first track to last.

some of my favorite discoveries so far (sadly no room on my ballot for them):

Frank & Tony - You Go Girl - the laziest deep house i've ever heard (in the best possible way)
Tobacco - Ultima II Massage - aggro electronic avant pop, some kind of bizzaro dubstep
Tape - Casino - lovely instrumentals, just the right mix of easy listening and interesting listening

gr8080, Thursday, 15 January 2015 17:04 (nine years ago) link

that frank & tony album is lush - did you hear the francis harris one as well? (he's the frank in frank & tony)

lex pretend, Thursday, 15 January 2015 17:08 (nine years ago) link

no but i'll check it out

gr8080, Thursday, 15 January 2015 17:17 (nine years ago) link

Was stunned to see that no one nominated Sleep, "The Clarity." None of my singles were nominated, not even the popular chill-out "Waves" remix with Mr. Probz! My fault for not doing so, but I had run out of time. I'll leave the singles voting to those who are into the singles more.

Oh, I forgot to nominate a bunch (and no one else did), so I won't vote

Ueno Masaaki's Vortices EP is on the big Nominated Albums list, and Vortex State, a track from that EP, is on the Tracks list. So far so good. But Vortex State also appears, erroneously, on the Albums list. I guess album-votes for either title can be merged.

The whole EP kicks ass, incidentally!

Container's EP is the spiritual twin of Masaaki's, obv - and it might be almost as good

hey JF I don't know how closely yr reading this but I wanna propose combining the votes for tracks GFOTY - Kiss and GFOTY - Secret Mix since Kiss is just a short excerpt of the 9-minute Secret Mix and wasn't even released on its own.

Just for fun, a prediction: 5 of my track votes, and 3 of my album votes, will make top 77.

cc: Peniston (Paul in Santa Cruz), Thursday, 15 January 2015 21:22 (nine years ago) link

xps that Container EP is amaaaaaaazing; I listened to it while I got a cavity filled and it sounds like it shoulda been awful and traumatic but it was actually really rad

lex pretend, Thursday, 15 January 2015 21:57 (nine years ago) link

Feel like there are relatively few consensus tracks this year, there's a load of stuff that could sneak in that might not in any other year.

Matt DC, Thursday, 15 January 2015 22:01 (nine years ago) link

yeah depends who gets round to voting as ever (HINT HINT to the ppl with good taste who usually rock up on the results thread saying "huh i had no idea this was happening")

Gigi Masin - Talk To The Sea

This is old stuff released last year, it is very beautiful. I ended up cutting off the Luciano Cilio re-issue off my ballot to accommodate this gem.

lex don't worry i already submitted my ballot

I've implemented both suggestions - the changes won't show up on the noms list but they'll be merged in the results.

Ladies and gentleguys, the bad news is that j0rdan is taking the year off from rolling out half of the results. The good news is that the tracks rollout will be in the capable hands of gr8080 starting Monday morning. As you were.

more listening. This is gonna go well into March if not longer I think, unless i get burned out.

Beep Dee's "From Above" is great EXCEPT for the high pitched alarm noise that punctuates every verse of the goddamn track so that's problematic.

Individual metal tracks shuffled into the midst of exploratory listening are proving really difficult to differentiate and enjoy especially when they're as onyx hard as Behemoth. I tried?

Beldina's "Ocean" is a late surprise add to my faves of the year... who nominated this? Good looking out! Wish she had more to listen to tho'...

I've loved everything I've heard on Ben Frost's AURORA and he was a killer live show but I somehow never took the time to really work the album out. "Venter" is as good as anything else on there.

I had wondered what the New Boyz were up to but this "Save It for the Birds" cut is torpedoed by a pretty painful vocal hook up front. I would very much be down with a resurrection of snap; minimal production is weirdly missing in a lot of contemporary hip hop all of a sudden.

Beneath's "Bored 2" sounds a bit too much like a bored guy playing with a sampler.

Weirdly the Benjamin Bruun track ("Alster Mermaid"), Benno Blome/Ada track ("Zen Cruiser") and Benoit and Sergio track ("Your Darkness") all have the same animus (if different time signatures). It's a shade under 20 minutes of music and if fits well alphabetically, creatively and emotionally. I like.

I'm still going back and forth on this Berner track ("All in a Day"). The production sounds like The Bug but the rapping isn't doing anything for me.

It's unkind but everytime I hear Betty Who I kinda wanna let Australia know we're not even done with Sia yet; can't they wait? Anyways, I like the two nominated tracks ("Just Like Me" and "Runaways") enough to let them play in passing but I can't imagine ever seeking this out.

The Beyonce album didn't impress me much on contact but the songs that I liked have burnished to love ("***Flawless", "Rocket", "Superpower", "Partition", "Haunted") and the ones that I was lukewarm on have turned mostly unlistenably tepid ("Drunk in Love", "Pretty Hurts", "XO", "Jealous")... I can deal with "Blow" in small doses. The Platinum exclusives are quite good tho: I thought "7/11" was dumb as hell on first contact and now I really can't get it out of my head; "Ring Off" is surprisingly strong and the "Standing on the Sun" remix has resurrected that track for me.
