This is...fine. Would probably listen to more by them.

Only thing on the list so far that I actually dislike is the Nicki track.

Love the way The Story kicks off. Actually could be my favorite.

mister chameleon is nice but it feels slight; in the meantime is DEFINITELY a more engaging track... also can't dodge the sense that it's somehow interpolating Anthony Hamilton's "Magnolia's Room" which just makes me want to listen to that instead.

very much an aside but i was working at a club when 'Southern Comfort' came out and i put "Magnolia's Room" on repeat for about two days until one of my co-workers told me to cut it the fuck out and that she was tired of the song about the "sexy seniors smiling" and now i can't ever not hear that in the chorus

I didn't know anything about Katie Gately but I just read the Quietus interview and the premise is pretty intriguing.

matt dc - check out the track 'pipes' from last year.

k gately exists in that nebulous space between pop, experimental composition and sound art

she is simply marvellous and arguably a paragon of all the above

'pivot' is not as electrifying a listen as 'pipes' imo but still utterly worthwhile & intriguing. somewhere near the middle of my ballot

kinda sounds like those choruses of heavily processed backing vocals on MBDTF

Tuneyards sucks, but great list so far otherwise (haven't gotten to Katie Gately yet). I keep forgetting about King - that's a gorgeous track.

The "woo-hahs" in that tune-yards bit remind me of Busta but not in a good way

Huh, I'm a little surprised to see that two of my top 5 have placed ("Song for Five and Six" #2, "Pivot" #4).

thanks for the link; this is okay but sounds like it requires lengthy listening and focus and probably headphones/live exposure.
Far is much more immediately accessible for sure

"Somos Sur" I hadn't heard before the poll - cool track, bet it is massive in Germany.

Sombra da Lua is GREAT

i'm mostly lukewarm on tune-yards but a friend drove me through new orleans while blasting "water fountain" last year and it felt pretty cool

I guess I appreciate this Katie Gately track and I'm happy it adds to the diversity of our poll, but today is probably the only time in my life I'll ever listen to it.

"somos sur" beat reminds me of the brief period marching bands and horns were a thing in rap - "rock yo hips", "get buck" etc

i did try with k gately and didn't hate it but i didn't feel anything at any point either

Didn't vote for Somos Sur, but the album is fantastic.

K G kinda reminded me of those "Pitbull slowed down 300x!" 30 minute long tracks you find (one of which I believed placed like 5 years ago, think it was the BIEBS)

the owen song is incredible of course, probably my favorite from that record

so many good melodic choices with the vocals on that OP track.
