This has been noted in other threads: if you're a JAMC fan, you'll probably like this.

This kind of looks like the 120 Minutes set, but I don't remember this happening during a JAMC interview...

really, wow! i recently signed up to their artist poll, so a new album before that poll is great news.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 17 November 2016 02:00 (seven years ago) link
I'm hopeful for it. saw them a while back where they were doing a little greatest hits bit then all of psychocandy and it was actually a bonafide great show which i generally don't expect from not particularly active baby boomer bands.

Song is also bad. Drums are really terrible. Lyrics, chords etc all sound like a JAMC-bot created them. If someone said it was Primal Scream I'd have laughed at it. Mind you there's a certain kind of Jesus and Mary Chain badness which the fans seem to want so what do I know?
― everything, Thursday, 8 December 2016 21:48 (seven years ago) link
a bit like a parody of a jamc song that you could imagine in a 90s channel 4 comedy show

So... Damage and Joy. It's not bad but kinda unnecessary imo, but anyway - they're back.
oh, and "The Jesus and Mary Chain Announce North American Tour"
Next (this) month, the Jesus and Mary Chain will release Damage and Joy, their first album in 18 years. In addition to their upcoming European dates behind the record, the band have now announced a North American spring tour. This May, they will perform in Brooklyn, Chicago, Toronto, and more. Find their upcoming shows below.
Damage and Joy is out March 24 via ADA/Warner Music. It follows the band’s 1998 LP Munki. The new album was recorded with producer Youth. It features contributions from the band’s touring drummer Brian Young, ex-Lush bassist Phil King, and Youth on bass. They’ve so far put out “Always Sad” and “Amputation” from the album.

xp. i enjoyed the show i saw on their last north american tour, like it was a legitimately solid rock show from a gang of olds and I'm glad i went.
having said that i don't think ill be going this time

It's about 10 years since I saw JAMC reunion now, they are playing in Bexhill which is like 15 mins on the train, am tempted.

It's pretty disappointing either way.
― Austin, Monday, 17 April 2017 20:36 (seven years ago) link
I don't think so. This album is pretty good for them. They have always been a pretty average mediocre band and this album just continues in that vein. Absolutely ok to listen to just for nostalgia. There have been so many bad reunion albums, this one isn't.

stfu
they are an amazing band, this album is terrible
― -_- (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 19 April 2017 19:12 (seven years ago) link
I don't think it's terrible, but it is pretty mediocre and definitely inessential. I was tempted to see them live the other week but I'd've had to rearrange work to do it and after listening to the new album decided not to bother.
― Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 19 April 2017 20:07 (seven years ago) link
I saw them a few times in their psychocandy days, I'm not going now, no need.

I was also at this show and they fucking ruled, just look at that playlist. The opening band, Warlocks, were also a pleasant surprise.

pleasantly surprised at the new lp (whereas the slowdive one bought at the same time hasn't grabbed me yet). lots of dumb lyrics in the later songs, but hey...
they are playing the forum (town and country / o2) kentish town on sept 20th, 27 years to the month since i saw them there with the telescopes and the fury things. (31 + 4.5 + 2.5 quid though)

they sold most tickets in person last weekend and only released what was left over online today. I'm sure shit is sold out everywhere. really looking forward to the SF show. I haven't seen NIN since the Bowie/outside tour, and haven't seen JAMC since the Rollercoaster tour with Spiritualized!

Hi, genuinely shocked here..
Was just looking at the discogs entry for "21 singles", seems its coming out on double-lp for the first time.
The writing credits has Jim writing only four. 'Upside Down', 'Never Understand', 'Come On' and "I love rock and roll'
So, the first two that put the J&MC on the map, and not much after? Amazed...
― Mark G, Thursday, 5 July 2018 23:01 (six years ago) link
are those credits correct? on most of their records the songs are credited to both brothers.
