Lovely little dudebro shaming song from Swedish trio Old.

does this thread like The Forest & The Trees? seems like their last record would fit in here

don't ask me why i posted this (electricsound), Thursday, 19 February 2015 22:39 (nine years ago) link

Listening now. Sounds like The Cardigans, so...possibly?

Johnny Fever, Friday, 20 February 2015 04:38 (nine years ago) link

Did you ever like Austra at all?

Emily Vaughn - Hollow

riyl Sky Ferreira, Ryn Weaver. strong vocals, addictive hooks, top production. this track is so alike Ryn Weaver.

first interview

“Life as a journey” A talk with Emily Vaughn
http://www.c-heads.com/2015/02/17/life-as-a-journey-a-talk-with-emily-vaughn/

"Well as of right now, I’m traveling back and forth from Florida to LA and recording my EP. The goal is to release it and play those songs on a tour, then work on the full length album!"

i remember when Ryn Weaver launched on soundcloud, minimal details, no mention of a major record deal. If Emily is travelling to LA maybe a major label / publisher has signed her already?

djmartian, Sunday, 22 February 2015 15:03 (nine years ago) link

I like a lot of the production/instrumentation details in "Hollow," but the chorus seems kind of flat for a song that sounds that big.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 22 February 2015 15:12 (nine years ago) link

Maybe a little overboard on the filtered vocals, but I like the keyboard voicing choices.

I am ready for some new Chairlift and some new Poliça (even though their last album was a bit disappointing) this year. Anyone know whether this'll happen?

Broth Viking (dog latin), Monday, 23 February 2015 15:25 (nine years ago) link

I've never been able to really embrace Poliça, despite them being "shambhala" as hell, but I wouldn't turn down any new Chairlift for sure.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:14 (nine years ago) link

Give You The Ghost is just chocka with great songs; Shulamith not so much. The effects on Channy's voice can be a barrier but I soon got used to it.

Former shambhala thread fave X Priest X, which now just goes by Priest, dropped a new one today: http://www.dummymag.com/new-music/priest-the-game-stream-debut-album-emotion-records

The odd initials reminded me, Paris XY (Copenhagen sound via Leeds) has a 2015 single.

Onuka from Ukraine. "Time" seems to be the single, but the whole album is on Spotify and I'm really liking it.

The Say Lou Lou album is out there now. It's just been released in Sweden and can be bought on import. It doesn't come out in the US/UK until April 6th. Just giving it a listen for the first time now.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 16:24 (nine years ago) link

Still mad they put stupid "Julian" on it and left off the beautiful "Maybe You."

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 16:27 (nine years ago) link

Interesting that you say you are mad about that as their Popjustice thread is full of people complaining Eclipse hasn't been included. I haven't heard either of those songs but will have to check them out after I finish the album. It sounds good so far.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 16:34 (nine years ago) link

I hadn't heard Eclipse before people started complaining it wasn't on there. Turns out to be quite nice.

Julian was their second single back a couple years ago. After introducing themselves with Maybe You, anything probably would've been a letdown, but even with that caveat I still think Julian is a fairly terrible song.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 16:38 (nine years ago) link

I haven't been following them from the beginning like you and plenty of others have been doing. I only got into them from the two songs nominated on the Spotify playlist (Everything We Touch and Games For Girls) I didn't realised they had already put out six singles. Along with Maybe You they left off Better In The Dark as well. They did put a few B-sides on there though which is a bit strange.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 16:59 (nine years ago) link

I think I found out about them at the beginning because I'm always sort of paying attention to all things The Church, and since they're Steve Kilbey's daughters they became immediately interesting.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 17:04 (nine years ago) link

Just listened to Maybe You and Better In The Dark. Both should be on the album.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 17:10 (nine years ago) link

Eternal Death album came out today on Labrador. not really what I'd expect from a band named Eternal Death, but within the bounds of what I'd expect from a band on Labrador. it's sounding nice on first listen.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9asgKOymms

fffv, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 18:11 (nine years ago) link

I've been getting pr emails about Eternal Death for months. None of the songs I've heard so far have stuck with me, but I'll give the whole lp a spin.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 18:21 (nine years ago) link

listening to SLL now. I always liked Julian! Wasn't into that one with chet faker, is that on here? (guess i'm about to find out!)

bae sremmurd (monotony), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 01:11 (nine years ago) link

Did you enjoy the album monotony? Think it could do with a few upbeat songs in the middle section but I did really enjoy it.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 03:29 (nine years ago) link

very pleasant - in terms of stuff in this lane i think it's a lot better than the indiana & rae morris albums but maybe not quite as good (certainly not as interesting) as the susanne sundfor

i'm happy they made "games for girls" as it reminds me of the thing of theirs i've returned to the most - the tiger & woods remix of "better in the dark"

debut track, by XYLØ titled America has over 180,000 plays on soundcloud and covered by many blogs this week

XYLØ's debut track 'America' is a "love song about two people forced apart by a country."
http://www.thefourohfive.com/news/article/listen-to-xylO-s-debut-track-america-142

reflective slow-paced dreamy female vocals, with rippling hazy synths. track would sound good in a film.

The whole ep is essential listening.

Kate Boy - Higher

Enticing as ever, though a bit heavy on the reverb. I fear the album rollout is as sabotaged by label delays as Indiana's was.

äkta människa (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 4 March 2015 02:24 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, that's a good song. Sort of a letdown that there's only one new song on a 5-song ep, but I'll take it.

Man Without Country - Laws of Motion feat. White Sea

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYdbqdWEKz8

The vocal by Morgan Kibby (M83, White Sea) lifts this track (a 2014 single?) above anything else on the still-enjoyable new album (Maximum Entropy, 2015).

Big, booming song in the recent Scandipop tradition.

So thankful for this thread; right now the Birthmark album (noted upthread by JF) is scratching my synthpop itch.

new Zella Day - Sacrifice

https://open.spotify.com/track/7wNJmGX7f0uBtIEghOldh5

another big bombastic track from Zella Day, added to spotify today from the soundtrack to the film Insurgent

Zella Day is often referred to as a more uptempo Lana Del Rey, and this track certainly reflects this.

djmartian, Thursday, 12 March 2015 15:54 (nine years ago) link

That's not for me, really. Too overtly (and desperately) soundtrack-y.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 12 March 2015 16:22 (nine years ago) link

Ane Brun has a new lead single off a 2015 album.

The last album was a bracing affair, despite a similarly charming lead.

Sanpaku, Thursday, 12 March 2015 18:52 (nine years ago) link

I know nothing about Jennie Abrahamson, except that "Wolf" is shambhalatastic.

Sanpaku, Thursday, 12 March 2015 18:56 (nine years ago) link

There's a connection, both Brun and Abrahamson have been tapped for Peter Gabriel tours (and the obligatory "Don't Give Up" duet).

Sanpaku, Thursday, 12 March 2015 19:47 (nine years ago) link

Ane Brun has never been my bag, but there have been several Jennie Abrahamson songs over the years that I've been into.

Adna is a Swedish artist, based in Berlin. the title track of her new album, "Run, Lucifer" is a sublime icy cold art-pop track, with piano and reflective vocals.

Adna, is under the radar, a few european and british based blogs have picked this up. e,g the 405 in the UK. Also Adna is being played on "Amazing Radio" in the UK, there are apps on google play and ios to listen to this excellent radio station that often plays new Shambhala type music.

The album was slated for March 20th release in Germany. However from some reason it appeared on Spotify UK on March 11th.

djmartian, Thursday, 12 March 2015 22:15 (nine years ago) link

Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder. I saved one of her tracks on soundcloud a while back, but I forgot to check and see if the album had come out yet.
