But they may well yet, because the overall effect just keeps on ticking, and she won't give up--eyes on the skies though they're frequently shades of gray---shades of post-Sade too, a wised-up but still cautiously hopeful seeker (because she has to be: whole thing is vs. depression, prob diagnosed; she mentions shrink early on, but haven't spotted any psychbabble yet).
