I think there'll be two post-Justice songs on mine, three if I go with nostalgia rather than reason.

It's been hilarious reading old Usenet posts from Metallica newsgroups circa 1996 around the time of Load's release. Loads of snarky posts about how the band have "lost it" and have "sold out" ... the main gist is that the fans felt that Metallica were deliberately trying to fit in with the alternative music scene of the time rather than stay true to themselves. Thing is, I reckon that Metallica were staying true to themselves... I think that Load and Reload were genuinely the albums they wanted to make at that time.

Brad, your Loady playlist is remarkably similar to the Unloaded mix I made for myself ages ago.
Except I loathe "Hero of the Day."

i've mentioned this before, but the first music file i ever downloaded was an mp2 (!!!) of a live performance of "2x4", well before Load came out. it sounded horrible but also kinda awesome & exciting because of how distorted & lo-fi it was.
― lil urbane (Jordan), Thursday, 25 June 2015 20:29 (eight years ago) link
Man, I'm listening to the black album and really wishing I could go back and hammer a couple of those songs into my ballot. Do you accept resubmissions, pp?
― how's life, Thursday, 25 June 2015 20:38 (eight years ago) link
'Sad But True' has a deeper groove than any of the groove-based tunes on Load/Reload.

I just randomly Googled "crap drummer", and the first webpage result is about Lars Ulrich. LOL!

what this poll has confirmed is how much i love certain lars phrases, for instance the tom stuff in "and justice for all"

I read an old interview the other day (for Playboy I think) which has Lars and Kirk making fun of Lars' bad drumming skills.

anyway i relistened to st. anger last night bc i was like "certainly i like one of these songs right" and it turns out i might vote for "dirty window"

Anyone looking for a Black Album deep cut to vote for I would ask you to consider The God That Failed.
I'll be submitting my ballot shortly. Turns out just twenty is quite difficult.

for me "of wolf and man" >>>>>>
but "the god that failed" has a great bass line

It's a beautifully crafted tune all round IMO, so many hooks.

God that failed, wolf and man, and through the never are the highlights of that album.

Just sent. Ordered fairly arbitrarily, threw up a couple of surprises. Never would've thought I'd put what I did at number three, for example.

There are some really excellent instrumental passages on DM and a couple of great choruses. Only one actually fully rounded great song though, which just missed my ballot.
