also thk u thread for alerting me to Beach Slang, I am obsessed with "Dirty Cigarettes." also, first new male vocalist in a while I've been really struck by.

like I had no idea that what I really wanted in '15 was a perfect synthesis of mid-period Mats and late Jawbreaker

new wonder years is the first record by them i've liked almost all the way through

"cigarettes and saints" is still so massive

i actually don't mind the letlive cameo and i usually hate that dude's voice!

After a few more listens I think it could use a trim and resequence ("Saints" comes too early imo and 2-3 songs could be dropped painlessly) but it's def mostly solid. Little stuff like the backing vocals on "Song for Ernest Hemingway" adds a lot of character.

There's a pretty decent emo-pop record hiding somewhere in this fucking neverending Dear Hunter album. "Waves" is a fucking tune!

i listened to the 9 minute dear hunter song a few weeks ago and it was a super frustrating experience. "waves" however is a totally great and efficient answer to the question "what if jimmy eat world recorded with an orchestra"

the new front bottoms album is 1) great 2) their first great record

lyrically? nah i think it's a little weird myself

mostly because I know people who seem to have wallpapered over their problems with ~babies~ and shit is hella irksome, so whenever I get to that bit my enjoyment kinda screeches to a halt

it also makes me doubly appreciate all the weird, sad lyrics about kids that pepper Daniel Romano's albums but I'll take that to the ersatz country thread, if that's a thing

the more i listen to the new world is record the more i like it, which is the opposite effect of their last album, which got blurrier as i got closer to it

probably in one of the last two threads. i mean, the sudden omnipresence of "twinkle" (ugh, still) is one of the reasons i felt confident enough to start a rolling emo thread. most of the bands who belong to that genre are really mediocre though
