my excuse for my credulousness is the album came up as a spotify recommendation and I just took the title at face value without really thinking about it. I wouldn't even have seen the full album title as spotify only shows you the first 10 characters or something rubbish like that.

Speaking of Maurice Fulton, his 2015 album The Hydrangeas Whisper (spotify) under the alias Boof was worth a listen, though it doesn't cohere. Separate EPs of the minimal/stern odd-numbered tracks and of the more funky even-numbered ones would have worked better.

Can I start campaigning to count Nicolas Jaar's Nymphs I-IV as an Album? Because, as such, it's sitting comfortably in my 2015 top 10.

are The Amazing discussed anywhere on ilm? i really like their last record ('gentle stream') and it feels like it could have been a ILM Thing in some parallel universe but they're kind of hard to search for
― ciderpress, Monday, 7 December 2015 20:55 (eight years ago) link
i'll have to listen to the new one now too i guess
― ciderpress, Monday, 7 December 2015 20:56 (eight years ago) link
they've been mentioned here a few times, but mellow reverbed-out indie dreampop is (understandably) not going to make much of a splash on ilm in 2015
― scarlett bohansson (unregistered), Monday, 7 December 2015 22:45 (eight years ago) link
idk if i'd characterize what i've heard as indie dreampop, it's more like jackson browne crossed with some of the stuff on the post-fahey thread
― ciderpress, Monday, 7 December 2015 23:26 (eight years ago) link
hmm, interesting reference points. the best comparisons I can come up with are the second Telescopes album (which is itself a blend of shoegaze and Fairportsy folk-rock) and Midlake, and I don't hear as much of a direct classic rock/folk influence as some people seem to. Picture You has a few more loud feedbacky guitar passages than Gentle Stream (expecially on 'Safe Island') but overall it's not drastically different from every other Amazing album. I still feel like this sort of thing is anathema to ilm's current sensibilities, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Hmmm, late discovery. The Kickback (Spoon's Jim Eno=producer) - "Headhunter" (from album Sorry All Over The Place). Hadn't heard a thing about these angular pop guys, though apparently they've been kicking around for years before recording their debut.

Here's a link to a playlist of my favorite tracks of the year: http://open.spotify.com/user/scottpgwp/playlist/7ilAqzxqmsAQ8xGcozIWce
Not ranked, but rather ordered as a pleasurable listening experience. Some obvious stuff (Tame Impala, Kurt Vile, Bjork), and perhaps some less obvious stuff (Jonas Munk, C. Duncan, Roedelius)--also people don't seem to have noticed that Radio Dept released some great singles this year, and the Walkmen essentially reformed without calling themselves the Walkmen.

Can i just say how much i love music's diversity... both the artistic field and the ILX collective's groupmind? We're a few days away from the end of the year and here's a list of new music that mostly hasn't been mentioned prior... not just on this thread but ANY of the genre threads! It is, to relocate the old proverb about chess, a river from which a flea may sip or an elephant may quench its thirst.
