2 Chainz EP is really tight, the first song is the best but yeah they're all good. He's a bit more subdued on it and he doesn't rely on punchlies as much (though they're still there obv)

Who was that weird kid from Sweden or whatever? Reminds me of that

Amira, Queen of Creativity (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 31 January 2016 23:23 (eight years ago) link

Also Meek's generally played himself during this beef but "War Pain" is pretty hype

Amira, Queen of Creativity (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 31 January 2016 23:24 (eight years ago) link

his whole new EP is good

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Sunday, 31 January 2016 23:38 (eight years ago) link

i didn't think the 2 chainz ep sounded that good, his writing has def dropped off

J0rdan S., Monday, 1 February 2016 01:21 (eight years ago) link

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Monday, 1 February 2016 01:32 (eight years ago) link

Who are the big ghostwriters these days?

Amira, Queen of Creativity (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 1 February 2016 01:34 (eight years ago) link

i know Key! did a bunch of stuff for people

there are lots of dudes tho

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Monday, 1 February 2016 01:37 (eight years ago) link

I appreciate that Meek specifically disses "Hotline Bling" in his song

nova, Monday, 1 February 2016 02:22 (eight years ago) link

fat mankey can barely write his own verses and he gets paid to write for other people?

King Mez wrote most of the lyrics on Compton I think, not sure if he's done other stuff

^^ ulysses, nice find. I love all the 00s bay area stuff that was basically some looped bars of a classic electro track (yeah I know that one's kraftwerk but whatever), would make a sweet playlist actually. Mac Dre/Mac Mall - Dredio is the first one that comes to mind.

for grim NY street shit been digging Griselda Records/Fashion Rebels (Conway, Westside Gunn, producer Daringer), their twitter bios say Atlanta and now in Buffalo NY for some reason...somewhat down with Roc Marci I think?

Thought he had a stroke or something but I guess Conway got shot in the head and lived, crazy

xp- average mixtape length going from >20 tracks to about 10 has been one of the best developments in rap the past couple years (what are the releases that set off this trend? was it future?) but yeah a lot of rappers that aren't high priority would get way more spins from me if they cut it even shorter

i get the sense that "have your own hip hop beef with a member of the wu!" was a pack-in bonus with the price of the album

really great album

thom yorke state of mind (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 9 February 2016 22:16 (eight years ago) link

? Epmd was almost done by time 8ball & mjg can't out also I love the Chris Spencer but their styles are way more battle rap energetic than pmd or sermon, who were really I think unique in NYC rap for being less consciously "skills" based

Twitter says Jay Rock was in a "serious" motorcycle accident today.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 03:45 (eight years ago) link

:(

question for goons:

so i was thinking, like now i guess basically the dominant rappers are drake and future basically? plus various autotune warblers and post-keef type dudes...anyway my point being, do we now start to now looking at Lil' Wayne as one of the transformational rappers in history? Like in old school terms like perhaps Run-DMC or Rakim where it's like they actually enacted paradigm shifts to what "rapping" was....or is that too simplistic and am I forgetting someone else?

uptown garfunkel (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 16 February 2016 16:54 (eight years ago) link
