Curious about the Larry Coryell track that kicks that off. From my favorite album of his (the one where he tried singing, and everyone hated it...everyone was wrong).

Its really hard to go wrong with most late 60s-early 70s fusion up to about '73-74. Coryell and his group Eleventh House records are worth hearing if you like that kind of music.

His song "Sex" always cracks me up. Sounds like he just had it for the first time and WAAAAOOOOWWWWWWWW SEXXXXX!!!!

Coryell's early band the Free Spirits finally had their more expansive live sound made available a couple fo years ago on a cd called live At The Scene. Previously their only representation was the studio lp which had constrained them in 3 minute song format without the space to improvise thanks to external control over what they were allowed to record. I think members had mentioned a live tape that provided a better picture for years and Sunbeam released that set in 2011.
I think Coryell's early 70s run of solo lps are supposed to be very interesting too. Pretty far out and stuff. Long improvisations etc.
Ray Russell who was also improvising on electric guitar at pretty much the same time is also interesting and a bit further out at the time, odd that he went onto writing tv theme music etc.

Bravo, Stevo, for rating the live Free Spirits album---it's a lot of fun, and ditto much of Coryell in the 60s and early 70s---uneven, but he sure had the spirit (speaking of the 60s, leave us not forget he was in the original Gary Burton Quartet, who were pioneering jazz-rockers for sure, also with a touch of country and/or folk at times). Also on Herbie Mann's Memphis Underground with Sonny Sharrock, and those records with Steve Marcus, as well as Eleventh Hous He turned out to be one of those musos who can play anything, and so they do: T-Bone Walker-style electric Texas blues, homage re Brazilian masters, tribute to Wes Montgomery, etc. etc. etc.---he did all these pretty well, but why not just listen to the originals? But there was a tyme, and he always sounds at least okay on the local jazz station, no matter what he happens to be playing.

now you guys have me listening to Larry Coryell tracks that i haven't thought of in years. this is very silly music (let's see how many notes we can play in 11/8!), but has a spirit of fun for jazz fusion:

i like this a lot more as an alternate version of Mahavishnu:

I got a Japanese copy of Ramsey Lewis' Salongo, and since this from the same era as Sun Goddess, with Maurice White and Charles Stephney writing credits, I expected it to be a similar laid-back synth jam album, but man this is super-funky!

my girlfriend got me a record for xmas from amazon, don't remember what she meant to get but they sent Dandelion Gum by Black Moth Super Rainbow instead. It's not bad, I never really paid attention to them, wasn't into the whole maximalist psychedelic kitchen sink they were (are?) all about, but it's nice. Pretty pink vinyl, too.
Oh yeah, Drums and Wires by XTC, too.

Salongo went up on Demonoid a couple of days ago. I haven't listened to it yet but it should still be there.

i realise that the ilm hivemind hate nu-era garage rock and roll, but fuck it.on a vodka fueled saturday night, there is genuinely no other band i would wish to see live.however, that's not possible, so, i just have to strap on the 'phones and up the tinnitus groove.

A Golden Void live set that went up on dime today and a track that sounds like its a cover of Maggot Brain. Some pretty lengthy guitar excursions elsewhere in the set including a Neil Young cover.Set was recorded 3 days ago in Germany and doesn't have the tracklist in its info file.
It's Isaiah Mitchell from Earthless's side project if you haven't heard of them. I picked up the 2nd lp recently before HMV closed down that hasa far more contemporary heavy rock production on it.

I was sat on a train to Glasshoughton today, en route to a trampoline arena. I was listening to that last M0ster album "When You Cut into The Present" , which is a badass jazz-psyche-rock recording that reminds me of The Psychic Paramount's last one.

I realize posting a photo AND then adding some words to let people know what album it is might be a really time-consuming task, but for albums with no writing on the sleeve maybe you could go that extra step.
What I'm saying is, what's that album featuring the guy in the fuzzy hat holding a violin?
