no way

winston, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 01:44 (sixteen years ago) link

this stuff is totally guilty pleasure
all about reveling in the aesthetic rather than the music (altho the music is the aesthetic omg)

deej, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 03:46 (sixteen years ago) link

how is it guilty pleasure?

jaxon, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 04:49 (sixteen years ago) link

i kinda like the novelty of it and when its on its like 'aha im listening to hip instrumental vibez' but i cant imagine not looking back on this in two years like ive been spending my time on instrumental hip hop

is a disco beat really any different from a breakbeat

deej, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 04:53 (sixteen years ago) link

it kinda feels like the music is so tied to the conceptual novelty that when context changes its not gonna age real well

deej, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 04:58 (sixteen years ago) link

what else have you got to do?

carne asada, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 05:07 (sixteen years ago) link

do you think mo'wax has aged badly? maybe this proves I'm an old jackass but i think most of the early trip-hop stuff sounds even better than it did 5 years ago!

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 05:21 (sixteen years ago) link

actually i know that's already been proven

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 05:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Vahid otm, and apologies for not crediting your beardo = trip hop theory above.

Hey, this sounds great, too.

patrin review on pfork is characteristically terrible

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 18:21 (sixteen years ago) link

it's blatant Tarantino bait that sounds like Hendrix's Band of Gypsys after developing some kind of Italian soundtrack fetish,

^^^writing very much in character

i was more offended by the way "i only loved this cheap and tacky 80s schmaltz when i figured out it's actually the o'jays" was rubbing up against "no wait, i really really do like this cheap and tacky 80s schmaltz, it's like having jodie foster blow crack smoke up my ass while we watch miami vice reruns"

pick your lazy cliches carefully and make sure they don't negate each other

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 15 May 2008 07:57 (sixteen years ago) link

i walked into the record store today looking to buy a copy of silent movie and instead i walked out with a used copy of "STEPPENWOLF: GOLD". can you smell it?

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 15 May 2008 21:23 (sixteen years ago) link

loving this. for some reason i missed all the WEWW singles - only heard the remixes - so it's all fairly fresh.

v, do steppenwolf really have enough good trax for a two-disc compilation??
