texturally this nao record is extremely my shit

i agree on the texture. vocally it's a little.... how do i put this..... british?

oh yeah but I don't particularly mind

wow fantasia, i knew she could do earthy but i didn't know she could do light and spacious, this album is great

had been underwhelmed by nao's ep and the singles i bothered hearing (and annoyed by her all-caps insistence), the album wasn't doing much for me but around "in the morning" it sort of...blossoms quite nicely and surprisingly

catching up on the pj album mentioned earlier too and that's really brilliant on one listen, though could do without the children's tv interlude thing and also why does g-eazy exist

certainly a bit of the old heliumballoonageorge about this nao. sounds ok on flick-thru but i don't anticipate ever recalling the songs

two-thirds through it i was thinking it could use either more hooks (cuz none were particularly memorable) or fewer hooks (and just commit to the semi-reverie she was poking at) but around the time when the beats got crunchier it seemed to resolve itself, albeit this is just one listen and i couldn't sing anything back to you yet. it's a weird thing about these aluna-ish voices that they're all ethereal/breathy but when it comes down to a whole album surprisingly inflexible

of the fantasia songs that are new to me (only about half the album, though the half i've heard was stunning already) "stay up" is so incredible

by the by i really quite like all alunag's new stuff this year! seems to be struggling for momentum though

anyway I too was annoyed at the insistence of nao and wasnt really planning on listening to the record but I came away so pleasantly surprised, much as the particular grooves and sounds it's using are kinda designed in a factory somewhere to make me lose my shit

thought it was sort of weird that even beyond the opener being titled "get to know ya" i was reminded at various points of maxwell's now

but around "in the morning" it sort of...blossoms quite nicely and surprisingly

also my initial posts about it itt were almost 100 percent motivated by the synth that appears halfway through "in the morning"

I think so. It's still boring, I guess, but as an aesthetic? First track is this 10-minute epic, which is like Pink Floyd meets "Hot Buttered Soul." Isaac Hayes' "Echoes?"

Man, it's been five years since King of Hearts, and almost seven since the Young Goldie EP. I wonder if he even has a label anymore?

From what I read last night after coming across the clip, there's an entity that's going to release an EP soon — not sure what label that is though.

EP is a good format for him. Low key, intimate, low stakes. I still return to Young Goldie every year or so and love it
