no-one offered to help with images, so i was just going to go with plain text. decided that was too boring and didn't have time to learn photo shop. decided to go with original artwork since Oasis has enough verity.

was going to only do a Top 40 but found 41 - 50 pretty interesting and a number one vote is in there.

this song barely made my ballot, glad to see my vote got it into the Top 50.

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 19:31 (seven years ago) link

My albums ballot would have looked exactly like the final result, to be fair, but with nothing after 1998 on it.

my number one!

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Friday, 26 August 2016 19:41 (seven years ago) link

love this song and made my ballot.

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 19:53 (seven years ago) link

Yeah I love that one as well, think it ended up quite high on my ballot

nate woolls, Friday, 26 August 2016 20:08 (seven years ago) link

yes, another b-side.

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 20:15 (seven years ago) link

never liked this one. I get the impression the Brits are fonder of the brickwalled distorted guitar overload than I am (one of the reasons I prefer Morning Glory to the debut tbh, it has less of that, more varied production)

Οὖτις, Friday, 26 August 2016 20:17 (seven years ago) link

it's like the classic shoegaze guitar sound ramped up by 1000 + cocaine

I'm actually quite surprised that 'Go Let It Out' managed to sneak into the Top 50. It was the last Oasis single I bought, as the whole thing just didn't feel the same anymore.

'D'Yer Wanna Be a Spaceman?', '(It's Good) To Be Free' and 'Headshrinker' are all (IMO) top notch, though. Noel's apparently been playing '(It's Good) To Be Free' quite a lot on his solo tours. However, there's nothing yet that I feel is too low or anything.

man I totally missed whenever they switched their graphic design style over to this psychedelic collage stuff, weird.

Οὖτις, Friday, 26 August 2016 20:43 (seven years ago) link

when i first saw them live at Glastonbury '95 they'd only had the first 2 singles out by then, but everyone around us was shouting for
".. Spaceman".

YES! I didn't think I'd see this one make an appearance, but I'm glad to see it here. This was one I was definitely going to vote for.

The cover of the single features the old Liverpool Speke Airport building. The airport is famous as the scene at which thousands of hysterical fans greeted The Beatles on their return to Liverpool at the height of Beatlemania. Derelict at the time, it has now been turned into a hotel. The aeroplane is an Avro Lancastrian.

meant to put that is quotes.

RE: I'm Outta Time ]

The song has been noted as one of the highlights of the album by fans, as well as the band themselves, with guitarist Noel Gallagher labelling it "deceptively brilliant"...Although only peaking at number 48 in France, the song spent a total of 28 weeks in the French Singles Chart,[6] the most ever by any Oasis single.

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 21:26 (seven years ago) link

The psychedelic collage stuff was only really for Dig Out Your Soul.

MarkoP, Friday, 26 August 2016 21:37 (seven years ago) link

'I'm Outta Time'!? Very surprised to see that one make it, too.

the hair - it's lost its energy (Turrican), Friday, 26 August 2016 21:46 (seven years ago) link

YES! Another one that I didn't think would place.

the hair - it's lost its energy (Turrican), Friday, 26 August 2016 21:58 (seven years ago) link

yay! love it.

piscesx, Friday, 26 August 2016 22:01 (seven years ago) link

this is why i decided to do a Top 50 instead of 40 as there are some surprises. even if it is Be Here Now heavy.

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 22:08 (seven years ago) link

not a bad thing, just interesting.

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 22:12 (seven years ago) link

demo version sung by Noel: https://youtu.be/rKz5wxrA3nU

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 22:32 (seven years ago) link

ARGH, NO! FUCK OFF! I really, really, really don't like this song. Last time I listened to this I couldn't shake the feeling that it felt tailor-made for someone like Celine Dion or something.

the hair - it's lost its energy (Turrican), Friday, 26 August 2016 22:35 (seven years ago) link

Noel should not have released that demo, though it's only on the DVD.

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 22:41 (seven years ago) link

going to add chart placement

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 22:42 (seven years ago) link

The song was written by Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher, who has varyingly described the track as "specifically designed for pogoing", "annoyingly catchy", and the "poppiest thing since "Roll with It"". Noting the varied influences of the song, Gallagher says that it's "a bit like... The Soundtrack of Our Lives doing The Who on Skol in a psychedelic city in the sky, or something".

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 22:49 (seven years ago) link

not really a fan of this one, was surprised on it's placement. it's okay i guess.

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 22:51 (seven years ago) link

wait, isn't that the cover for the album?

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 22:53 (seven years ago) link

oh i see, the picture is different.

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 22:54 (seven years ago) link

"You'll never forget my name" i can see why Sony would think this would be a good single in the US.

Bee OK, Friday, 26 August 2016 23:05 (seven years ago) link

only going to do a few more today.
