How many votes do we get on the voting thread? If it's 30 then nominating 30 songs means you're more or less voting for every track you nom, but then what about the other people's nominated tracks? Or are we nominating some songs we don't intend to vote for at all? Then 20 noms 30 votes works better. Or 30 noms 40 votes idk haha I'm overthinking it but it makes sense to me that way.

I have a question to the poll runners: this year Biosphere reissued Patashnik, and Cirque, which both include a second CD with an album's worth of previously unreleased material. Can these extra CDs be nominated as separate albums?

:-O

Is this actually from this year?

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Wednesday, 14 December 2016 16:42 (seven years ago) link

It's from 1978.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 14 December 2016 16:44 (seven years ago) link

from their bandcamp

"The Fruit Band's fleeting existence was only recently revealed by the discovery of a few unsold copies of their sole 1978 single,Say It, which quickly became a cult showpiece for savvy DJs and collectors. Athens of the North has since reached out to Cypress Studios of Jacksonville, Florida and discovered a complete album of the group's stylish, dancefloor-smashing funk and deep disco on tape, unreleased for over 30 years. Vinyl is presented in a Handmade cardboard Tip-On Sleeve as would have been used at the time as only the best will do.

There's some essential ones tho... we should have a S/D thread about this sort of albums. Top of my head two long lost albums which really feel essential to me:

Black Devil Disco Club
Saada Bonaire

If posthumous/archival releases count then Arthur Russell has some great ones which I might even like more than his released material.

How do we get Tidal links included? I believe that there are alternative ways to listen to music, other than Spotify and YouTube, though ILM is sponsored by Spotify (and couldn't manage its statistical analysis without that connection).

dlp9001, Wednesday, 14 December 2016 18:36 (seven years ago) link

lol tidal

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 December 2016 18:38 (seven years ago) link

Companies owned by black people are pretty laughable compared with companies owned by Swedish people, so yeah. It's fun opening Tidal and finding *absolutely nothing* that's highly ranked on ILM.

dlp9001, Wednesday, 14 December 2016 18:40 (seven years ago) link

Cool guys, let's do this for the millionth time

Spotify is used by more people in more countries than Tidal, so it's the service of choice for this process. Vimeo is a superior platform to Youtube, but Youtube's use is so widespread (and it has a bigger catalog, so it's a no-brainer).

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 14 December 2016 19:06 (seven years ago) link

p sure dlp is the only cool guy who does this all the time

I'm confused, isn't this another argument for why we should stick to using Spotify for these playlists?
