did anyone else do a "where's tim" scan of the accompanying art after hearing "I'm hiding in the leaves / in the CD jacket sleeve"
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:06 (seven years ago) link
no but we'll be doing a few "WHERE'S JIM" scans over the next couple days
― cwkiii, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:09 (seven years ago) link
oh common life is not going to place bc it disappeared from the noms but i would really like to isolate it as a record on which a pretty trad pop-punk band stretched out a lot and ended up making a really resonant album about death and trauma, and i've found i grow closer to it as i get older. i also think they're a pretty incomparable band lyrically

is there going to be any more blink 182?
― gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:13 (seven years ago) link
Yup, it's a stellar album. Gospel is also very good, "I Was Born in the Dark" is a master class in songs under 150 seconds that nevertheless cram in a dozen musical twists xp
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:14 (seven years ago) link
Don't think it even got nominated by Mama, I'm Swollen was a way underrated LP with like 4 knockout songs on it. My favorite post-Ugly Organ Cursive album
― Evan R, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:15 (seven years ago) link
until very recently i preferred gospel. i go back and forth. fireworks were the first modern pop-punk band i really fell in love with xp

"even strangers are asking you / 'what the hell is wrong with him?'" on "one more creature dizzy with love" just kills me
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:16 (seven years ago) link
I can't believe they didn't include a version of the title track, what a gorgeous song that is
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:17 (seven years ago) link
i programmed a version of the album where the title track is the opener. makes it a masterpiece imo lol
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:18 (seven years ago) link
(i think potentially they wrote and recorded the title track after turning in the album. heard that somewhere)
― the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:19 (seven years ago) link
damn, would have *killed* as the side 1 closer
anyway that's enough out of me re: a song that's not on an album that's not gonna place lol

i appreciate the diversity in this poll but it's also super weird

I was soooo excited for this to come out and didn't really know what to make of most of it when it did. One of the first albums I can remember to just totally confound my expectations.
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:31 (seven years ago) link
I loved "Helena" so much! "Hang 'Em High" is one of my favourite deep cuts from Three Cheers.
i guess i would argue that it's wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too prog for this poll but it's also great so fine
― My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:33 (seven years ago) link
it's my fav d plan record

Tbh, what I liked about what people were calling emo when I was first exposed to it was that it was like a new kind of prog rock.

i feel this! that gospel record just seems to slip out of even my expansive emo venn diagram
I am on a national express, alone, achey and tired from another city I didn't need to go to; this thread is perfect for me. Thanks guys.

I couldn't not vote for this, one of my favourite albums of the '00s (and definitely a big part of my initial emo phase).
― Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:36 (seven years ago) link
"Sentimental Man" / "Face of the Earth" is one of the great opening salvos
uhh anyway this is another killer album I didn't actually vote for

One of you should do a hardcore/post-hardcore poll

really didn't see the +44 album taking it
you say that and yet i was thinking last night had the box car racer album been nominated i would've considered voting for it

Avril is still to place..

Okay, checking in again: I voted for no less than three Dismemberment Plan records. This is one of them. For some reason Change is a night time album for me, I've played this for years after coming home from the pub/shows. It's one of my favourite come-down records.
― Marty8501 (Marty Innerlogic), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:55 (seven years ago) link
I can definitely hear that. Even in its relatively manic moments it has a zen quality.
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:56 (seven years ago) link
Yeah, whereas Emergency & I is the opposite of that, it's frenetic, nervous, yet danceable.
