this album comes so close to being too clever for its own good so many times but just barely stays course
― gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 14:41 (seven years ago) link
also this post-reunion braid track would be high on my tracks ballot https://youtu.be/BF4r32HxhFs

I voted for the fugazi but had to cut the Braid album from my longlist as I hadnt heard it in years

haven't been able to stop listening to lp2. goldsmith's ghost notes on "iscarabraid" are incredible, i don't think i ever noticed them before. can u believe dave grohl recorded over all of goldsmith's drum tracks for the colour and the shape? (i can but what a shame)

can't stand bright eyes but this record is indisputable

Listening to Braid again for the 1st time in years and it really should have been on my ballot.
― Odysseus, Friday, 10 March 2017 15:50 (seven years ago) link
This is also great and also went straight into my ballot after a couple of songs
― an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Friday, 10 March 2017 15:50 (seven years ago) link
this album proves that oberst is emo cause the only way you wouldn't make a bunch more records like this was if you hated fun
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 15:50 (seven years ago) link
I thought Desaparecidos would be top 10. Great album.
This was my number one!!
― cajunsunday, Friday, 10 March 2017 15:51 (seven years ago) link
the perfect situation for conor oberst's voice is extremely loud electric guitars, which is why bright eyes records always sound like gross miscalculations to me

haven't heard any of the last three.

hate bright eyes so much that I've never listened to this despite all of the praise. need to finally break down and check it out.
― cwkiii, Friday, 10 March 2017 16:01 (seven years ago) link
to reiterate brad's earlier point I'm extremely stoked that this soundly defeated all the bright eyes albums

I love that the b-sides flow into each other with a segue, classic rare advanced wanker move

Someone had nominated this album as Read Music/SpeakEnglish, and it almost ended up that way in the rollout, if only just one person out of nine hadn't corrected it :)

I'm not sure if anyone has linked to this masterpiece of experimental criticism yet: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/2288-read-music-speak-spanish/

this album was so good it transcended my teen pitchfork-reader bias
OK, I wasn't sure, and too lazy to check.
This is a great album btw. Hadn't heard it before.

Still gonna ride for that incredible 89 Cubs album, which was I think a band with a couple guys from Desaparecidos and another Saddle Creek bench player. Much wider in scope than Read Music Speak Spanish, but it's still got that same massive sound. Fucking love those guitars
