Promise ring is one of my two guesses. The other is infinity on high.

TOO LOW

nothing feels good was my #1 without even a second thought, some days it feels like my #1 album of all time
WARNING: TMI/EMO:i just listened to NFG on my morning commute in anticipation of its placing today (walking in 30°weather lol). this week’s rollout has beautifully coincided with an emotionally heavy period for me at work and the result was some legit fighting back exhaustion-tears from behind my sunglasses
END OF EMO
contrasting with simon’s description of domestica:
one of the starkest and most stressful rock albums ever, no relief or release at all (or when it comes it feels mocking)
NFG swerves and crashes between stress and relief at such a rapid clip that the result is a dizzying euphoria.
if the loud-quiet-loud formula the pixes perfected is emotional arithmetic , promise ring’s sonics feel like emotional chaos theory
i could go on but I’ll just defy thread convention and instead link to a brilliant pitchfork review for a change, ian cohen’s writeup of the 2015 re-release: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/21125-nothing-feels-good/

Native Nod is obv #1 but I can't figure out whether #2 is Portraits of Past or Indian Summer. Mohinder?

nothing feels good is obv a 10/10 classic but i'd like to quietly celebrate my fav promise ring song from the non-charting 30 degrees everywhere

i have been waiting to say that atdi was not an emo band

I'm beginning to think I was never fair to the Promise Ring tbh. The way they combine text with music seems interesting.

Congratulations to the boys at Sunny Day Real Estate.

thanks mordy, arch, and everyone--this was a lot of fun

does anyone remember the contest that (I think) mtv2 ran when Relationship of Command came out, where you had to name all the locations shown in the video for "One Armed Scissor"? a college friend of mine won that and took my ex-roommate with him on the grand prize trip to Paris to see the band (and hang with Beastie Boys etc)
I was so fucking jealous and emo about that

Wow, finally caught up with the roll-out. Great results!

― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:38 (seven years ago) link
Thanks so much to ArchCarrier and Mordy for running this. Its been great fun listening to loads of new stuff the last couple of weeks.
― cajunsunday, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:38 (seven years ago) link
Totally fine with these results. Relationship of Command was my No. 1. Album changed my life. Still completely holds up. Unsure if it's technically emo but I love it all the same.Thank you so much for putting this together. Lots of cool finds on here.

"Seven" is basically the best song so I'm fine with Diary winning.

Yeah massive thanks Mordy, ArchCarrier and everyone who nommed/voted, so much great stuff i'd never heard

In a way it would've been nice for Joan of Arc to have won this to really stick it to Pitchfork.
― cajunsunday, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:41 (seven years ago) link
i could maybe buy it back then, i don't see it at all with relationship
― call all destroyer, Friday, 10 March 2017 21:41 (seven years ago) link
Mordy and ArchCarrier: thank you so, so much for this. As far as I can remember this has been the best, most fun poll. And I didn't even vote! Felt out of my dept, but then it turned into this great nostalgic trip, yet also with ten plus must hear albums on my list.
And sincere thanks to all commenting and adding to the joy, Brad, Simon, Spottie and - as if you never left - Grady. My sad emo heart is happy. <3
