"BOYZIIMEN-ABC-BBD!"

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 22 April 2004 15:34 (twenty years ago) link

Isn't that how that song ends?

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 22 April 2004 15:35 (twenty years ago) link

Yay Book of Love! Though they were really only great half the time.

Now the question is how many of these bands can tell me where to get a good cheesesteak.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 April 2004 15:40 (twenty years ago) link

Jesus, I miss Bahamadia. What's she been doing?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 22 April 2004 15:44 (twenty years ago) link

Diplo / Hollertronix!

superultramega (superultramarinated), Thursday, 22 April 2004 15:52 (twenty years ago) link

I kind of like that one Bahamadia song where she name-checks various factory outlet type shopping places.

Rockist Scientsit, Thursday, 22 April 2004 15:55 (twenty years ago) link

"Diplo / Hollertronix!"

hollertronix: too overhyped / too early to really judge how good it actually is.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 22 April 2004 16:42 (twenty years ago) link

ned, you will never get a straight answer on the cheesesteak thing.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 22 April 2004 16:42 (twenty years ago) link

ween don't answer the cheesesteak the question, but they do tell you where "mannequin" was filmed, which is almost as important.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 22 April 2004 16:47 (twenty years ago) link

But Ween can tell you where to get a good pork roll, egg & cheese! I can as well.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 22 April 2004 16:51 (twenty years ago) link

"ween don't answer the cheesesteak the question, but they do tell you where "mannequin" was filmed, which is almost as important."

fact checking cuz... take note:

ween is incorrect. the band states in the lyrics to "freedom of 76" mannequin was filmed at woolworths; it was filmed at the wanamaker building, where lord & taylor is currently located.

however, woolworth was located across the street on chestnut. it closed in '96-97.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:19 (twenty years ago) link

Maybe "Woolworth" just scanned better. :)

mike a, Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:21 (twenty years ago) link

uh-oh. i will have to re-evaluate my love for ween.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:21 (twenty years ago) link

but i guess that's what happens when a band from the suburbs tries to write about the big city!

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:22 (twenty years ago) link

God, I miss Philly sometimes. I want a Jim's cheesesteak and a Brown's Black Cherry soda NOW.

mike a, Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:22 (twenty years ago) link

ned, you will never get a straight answer on the cheesesteak thing.

Then I will revel in the multitude of possible answers.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:40 (twenty years ago) link

First, Jim's Cheesesteaks are terrible, you need Pat's, Rick's, or Tony Luke's.

Bands: Mandela Strikeforce (Sean and Don from Ink & Dagger), Flagman, Frail.

Beer store: The Foodery on 10th & Pine.

note: I don't live 'nere no more.

Travis Brady, Friday, 23 April 2004 17:20 (twenty years ago) link

Agreed. Jim's is just trashy trash that tastes like trash that someone found in the trash can. Is ishkabibble's still there? They had the best chicken steak.

Man, I miss Philly.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:25 (twenty years ago) link

I miss 'nem wooder oices up'ere.

Travis Brady, Friday, 23 April 2004 17:31 (twenty years ago) link

Holy shit did I just read someone giving props to Scram! Damn, that takes me far into the way back machine.

Does anybody know what is up with MantaRay? Do they still gig at all?

And that act The Low Numbers from like 6 years ago? I thought they were going to be huge, saw them at The Balcony right when it opened and never heard anything about them after that night.

And what ever happened to those guys in the Interpreters. Man, they were huge for about 6 minutes back in the 90s, weren't they. I'll throw out props for Lefty's Deceiver and defunct acts Haywood and Moped.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:57 (twenty years ago) link

andrew says:

"got buds in these:
excelsior
amen booze rooster
aspera"

search: excelsior
destroy: amen booze rooster, aspera.

blast of static:

the low numbers changed their name to the hi soft. i havent seen them since the name change, but i do remember them being really really good.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:05 (twenty years ago) link

more on hi soft: afaik, they have no formal releases but do have a track on the "hoags" compilation.
