holy shit yes― aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Friday, July 13, 2018 8:33 PM (one week ago)
Florence was the one that surprised me because I've always found her very bland. I'll have to check out Tune Yards because I love annoying singers and I hope Let's Eat Grandma stay annoying voiced forever.

Just discovered these guys through someone else's middle-of-the-year list on which I liked nothing else. Have listened to most of the album and love it, although yet to get to Donnie Darko.
They're playing in DC on Thursday but I doubt I'll get to go becase of school night/hurricane double whammy. Anyone see them live?

Yes, saw them last week — very much enjoyed the show, they had a straightforward enough performance style but they delivered.

One of my ten albums of the year so far, this. I've played the shit out of it and am yet to exhaust it!
― Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Monday, 10 September 2018 21:10 (five years ago) link
The two epics are magnificent, but 'Falling Into Me' has got to be one of my tracks of the year - it's just perfect.

US tour cancelled as Jenny Hollingworth's boyfriend has passed away.

solo track from Rosa, decently enjoyable

Okay lol @ Turrican’s freak out upthread, especially the “let me deflect these implications of sexism by repeatedly using a phrase containing a word that has become a racist slur”
― DJP, Tuesday, 15 December 2020 13:30 (three years ago) link
LOL what a tool, I still have no idea what his problem was with the accent of one of the singers.

basically just continuing what made the last album good, not exciting but i'm still here for it

Agree with that take

album two ribbons out jan 28
title track is a little pretty but lacks anything that made them interesting unfortunately

def feels like the only marketable choice rn is between 80s synthpop and pop-country, and LEG have chosen the one they're worse at
― imago, Thursday, 11 November 2021 12:10 (two years ago) link
Yeah. The video is also so Folklore-y that it ought to be a parody. Still, will give benefit of the doubt til I hear the album.

once again it's not bad but i'm not really feeling this either

Yeah, it's fine but not interesting.

the main synth riff is v generic in quite an off-putting way, but even so i do like this song, definitely felt some odd jumble of emotions watching that

wow this is a bummer was excited to see the thread bumped, they really chucked it all to go for "random indie band opening for angel olson"
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 4 January 2022 20:35 (two years ago) link
Bit disappointed by the new album. It's nice enough and the vocals are fantastic but they took away a lot of the things that made the second album so compelling. Some of it sounds pretty generic compared to what they were doing before.

Sad to hear this take.
― Bee OK, Friday, 29 April 2022 01:53 (two years ago) link
yeah i agree, it's mostly solid (though the last two tracks are a fair bit weaker) but it lacks anything that really made them distinct before. i quite like "levitation" at least
― ufo, Friday, 29 April 2022 05:17 (two years ago) link
Those last two songs are a real mood killer and feel like they should be bonus tracks. Kind of reminds me of Future Nostalgia in that way.

We are so gutted to have to pull tonight's show at Stag and Dagger in Edinburgh, there were tech issues beyond our control 😔 All tickets for tonight should be eligible for entry tomorrow in Glasgow - really hope to see you there 💝— Let's Eat Grandma (@thelegofgrandma) April 30, 2022

hmm, I think this album's pretty great, esp. "Happy New Year" and "Two Ribbons." latter is one of those songs where I keep hearing the tension of it not going bigger in the way it seems ready to, so that every detail (slight distortion, a second voice tripping over the first, "watch them wash away") reads as a massive ripple in the fabric. reminds me of some other closing track(s) I can't quite place, has "So Tonight That I Might See" or "Looking Glass" energy maybe.
