Don't be too sure.

A while ago, I dimly remembered a Dylan style take off of "Ilkley Moore baht at", but all I could find was Bill Oddie's version which was a take on Joe Cocker's style. About a month later I remembered. It was me, one drunken evening...

Find Stone's email address (or info@pearljam dot com or something) and ask him? Promise to donate $50 to one of his charities if he answers?

StanM, Friday, 5 June 2009 11:03 (fourteen years ago) link

The too short connection sounds likely: left coasters both.
Just listened to complete MIIS sndtrk and it's not on there.

Maybe it was a one-time live improv lyric :-(

StanM, Friday, 5 June 2009 14:50 (fourteen years ago) link

OK, live performance on TV with someone from Pearl Jam on or near the stage: does this 1992 Lollapalooza lineup help?

Main Stage: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam, Lush

Side Stage: Jim Rose Circus, Sharkbait, Archie Bell, Porno for Pyros, Basehead, Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Sweaty Nipples, Arson Garden, Seaweed, Seam, Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E., The Look People, Stone Temple Pilots, The Vulgar Boatmen, Truly, Skrew, Tribe, The Authority, Samba Hell, Café Tacuba, Rage Against the Machine

StanM, Friday, 5 June 2009 14:56 (fourteen years ago) link

no, it was on MTV in the early 90's; in-studio live show as i recall though I might be crazy. I guess Boo Yaa Tribe is a possibility?

pending echeques (forksclovetofu), Friday, 5 June 2009 15:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Just to be sure: which one of these people was it? (you said bassist and Gossard upthread, but those are two different people)

http://www.earyago.com/sites/dmeyer/_files/Image/pearl%20jam.jpg (big pic)

(first three: Stone Gossard (glasses), Mike McCready (used to be blond and a lot heavier, has some kind of bowel thing), Jeff Ament (sometimes seen with goatee, hat) )

StanM, Friday, 5 June 2009 15:49 (fourteen years ago) link

wow 3/5ths of pearl jam lookin terrible these days

hugging used to mean something (call all destroyer), Friday, 5 June 2009 15:54 (fourteen years ago) link

It was a one time watch over 15 years ago; I remember it being Stone, but I'm honestly not sure. Might be a false part of the memory, might by Ament. Mostly I remember the song.

pending echeques (forksclovetofu), Friday, 5 June 2009 17:11 (fourteen years ago) link

Not your answer, but it's clear that Gossard loves being the rap king of Seattle.

http://www.fivehorizons.com/archive/articles/gp0794.shtml

Q: Steve, you've played with a lot of different people. What's the key to working with different personalities?

STEVE: I like to think I'm versatile enough to mix into any situation. I should be able to, I've had enough training.[Laughs.] I've played behind all different types of male and female singers and groups. I've gone from one extreme of playing jungles with 50-piece orchestra to doing Booker T. & The MG's with three other guys. I'm a very commercial guy, I love to listen to the radio. This Ace Of Base is driving me crazy. I can listen to it all day long.

STONE: You're not into the new Snoop Doggy Dogg, though?

STEVE:[Frowns.] I don't think so.

STONE: "Gin And Juice," the baddest groove in years. Lately I don't listen to rap that much but I did when NWA, Public Enemy, and Ice Cube came out. That's probably where I got my funk grooves... My playing is either second generation via Jimmy Page ripping off black artists, or it's rap grooves that are sampled from the '70's and '60's.

Another shot in the darkness of your subconscious: Pearl Jam/Cypress Hill, "Real Thing," off Judgment Night?

dad a, Saturday, 6 June 2009 01:56 (fourteen years ago) link

Because apparently they performed this as part of the 1993 MTV New Years Eve special.

forksclovetofu:

did you know that in the early 90s, Stone Gossard ran a small record label called Loose Groove (or Loosegrooves) that had a rap band on it called "Prose and Concepts"? I don't have time to look into them atm, but thought maybe this will help your search.

Weapon of Choice were also on Loose Groove. Kinda P-Funk, kinda wacky, might have included a line like "ain't nothin' but a chicken wing..."

On September 5, 2008 the rapper was hospitalized and placed on life-support after he collapsed when his kidneys failed during a game of pickup basketball. On November 22, 2008, Breed reportedly died in his sleep while at a friend's home in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
