I always dig their clean no-frills production

Really good record. Some really harsh/aggressive stuff, some really pretty stuff.

Really.
will this be the rock album that finally unites ILM
― bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 February 2020 00:40 (four years ago) link
First half is great, but it got a bit too Math in the second half and lost me. (Rock isn’t generally my thing though. I was coming at this as a J Pop fan and knew nothing about the band hitherto.)

I wrote a little bit more about the album.

Can't wait to dig into this. Post THE I felt they struggled to reach those old heights but the singles for this album have been super promising and made me a born again fan.

I love this record.

I really liked their Fender-y light sound on the early stuff - the newer material is thicker and I can't lose myself in the interplay as much. I reckon it will improve once I've listened more, but unlike their previous albums this one's not on Bandcamp so I can't buy it very easily.

Yeah, it's ironic that signing to a bigger label has likely improved their status in Japan, but handicapped them w/r/t growing their US audience. (The new record is on US Spotify, though.)

love this album - I think it might be their best

Haven't really kept up with them but have been getting a vague whiff of RHCP from the new one which is kind of interfering with my pleasure receptors
― Boris the Spreader (NickB), Thursday, 28 May 2020 14:09 (four years ago) link
late pass here but this is currently blowing my mind. agree with nickb in that the bass player reminds me a lot of flea. but that's a plus, imo.

the rap on track three changed my life
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 21 October 2020 20:52 (three years ago) link
how are they so good????? this is maybe their most outré record but it all really works
The rap is great. My favourite moment on second listen is that piercing yet menacing riff on the final track.

The two Tricot albums are my two favourites of this year so far. I have a theory that most bands peak with their 4th and 5th albums.
― aphoristical, Sunday, 25 October 2020 20:30 (three years ago) link
holy shit what a great song, recaptures the buzz I got from T H E. Is Yoshida a new drummer? I thought they'd been using machines and session players on recent stuff.

if taylor swift hadn't also done it i'd be like "wow it's incredible this band released their two best albums in one year"
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 24 December 2020 16:38 (three years ago) link
I need to listen to this one again. I only gave it one chance and it didn't hit me the way the one from January/February did, so I moved on to other things.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Thursday, 24 December 2020 19:10 (three years ago) link
I would take the two Tricot albums over the two Swift albums as my favourite pair of albums of the year, but maybe that's because Evermore hasn't clicked for me yet.

From math rock to reality TV. Ikkyu, the singer, has appeared on some kind of celebrity dating show looking for a husband... and found a potential one in a comedian called Ichikawa Sashimi!
