From the video description: i've had this song at the end of the mixtape kon & amir on track volume 3 for many years. of course, there's no tracklisting on the tape and the song just cuts off.
high fives to anyone that can provide any clues.
Obviously a tenor player (I thought it was John Klemmer for many years, but no) and a recording from the late 60's/early 70's. Even if you know the name of the tune, that would help. Or if you know if it's been sampled, that would help as well.

I'm. . . speechless.
Thank you.
I mean, jeez, this song has been with me as a mystery for over a third of my life.
I am in your debt, good sir.

I nominate The Late Great for this month's gold star.

Whatever, I bet he just used Shazam.

Well I am still very appreciative. That was literally something on my "holy grails" list — something that I can now cross off.
And I have you to thank for that.

Looking for a Monk album (or track?) that sounds early wrt its production style, though I admit I can't be certain of its age. It has a saxophone that's not particularly high in the mix, though not buried, either. The saxophone is very busy and much less "melodic" than a typical Monk sideman's playing. Boppish. The song I heard was dominated by this busy saxophonist, and it sounded at first like the saxophone was laid over top from a recording of a sax solo, yet the track also sounded very much Monk-led, unlike some of those Rollins recordings where Rollins is the through-line and centerpiece and sometimes officially the leader. I haven't necessarily ruled out Rollins, though the sax didn't sound as throaty and tenor-y and full as his.

Something makes me think it is Johnny Griffin you are talking about.

why is it these days whenever i find a good cut i hadn't heard before snaith has already gone and put it on his fucking mixtape
― diana krallice (rushomancy), Saturday, 28 May 2016 19:11 (seven years ago) link
Yes! I think it's him. The register, tone and style are right. The recording fidelity matches pretty well. It may be a track on Misterioso. I'll investigate. Thanks.
Who is snaith?

caribou. put up a 1000 song mix on youtube last year. which in some way is a tremendously anti-completionist venture, because even abnormal people can't possibly listen to it all, and i'm completionist by nature, but damn all those songs are so good.
