A two-piece heavy rock band have the No.1 album in the UK. what do you think of them?

Oh. I actually saw these guys earlier this year (by accident). I have absolutely no memory of what they sounded like.

It would have been quite loud.

Yeah, they were just kinda loud in a boring way. Shouty and grunting. I don't remember them. I remember Temples, though, who were terrible in a really, really funny way. It was a weird evening.

My instinct is that I would be more into them if were to exploit, in a more interesting way, the relative novelty of being a non gtr 2 piece rock band

as they are I dont think theyre that interesting

might be time for Lightning Bolt to make a break for the mainstream

perfect opportunity for a record like this to go straight in at number one - not many other big records released in the last couple of weeks, album sales slumped at an all-time low

they are surprisingly tolerable

Royal Blood are Generic as fuck

Deap Vally are pretty good, IMO. Royal Blood sound like a slightly more competent version of every third-on-the-bill retro heavy rock band I've seen in the last two years. Nothing specifically wrong with them but no fun whatsoever.

for other touchstones, this is 11 years old now but as far as 2-3 piece rock bands that would just shock the fuck out of you in a live club situation, the modey lemon was pretty hard to top:

you say falser, i say realer - but we are in agreement: the 'realness' here is itself a false construct, a play at down-to-earth authenticity with the swagger of Oasis & the attitude of landfill indie gone slightly-more-bombastic

I have seen crowds do a lot worse than be lukewarm in their applause, especially at festivals, guy seems like a bit of a prick tbh.

Tried listening to their latest album (from 2021) and holy fuck. Imagine the worst possible combination of Chromeo and Muse. They're lucky the crowd didn't pelt them with batteries (something I saw happen to a band opening for Slayer once).

The best way to get people to rock is to command them to do so

Saw them open for QOTSA a few years back and thought they were pretty good.

My guess (and it is a guess) is the band got onto a festival filled with electronic, pop, hip-hop, or anything else that is not a "rock band" and made the calculated decision that if they were going to go down with the Titanic, may as well flip off the deck chairs, or whatever.

It was Radio 1, and they were reportedly right between a One Direction guy and Lewis Capaldi, so a young MOR pop leaning crowd.
