TBH I think his 2014 has been better than most competing artists.

he has depth as a rapper & isn't a singles machine.

My Chief Keef best of 2014 comp would be something like:

1. Chief Keef - Gucci Gang feat. Justo and Tadoe
2. Chief Keef - Close That Door
3. Chief Keef - Hundreds
4. Chief Keef - Ight Doe
5. Chief Keef - Killer
6. Chief Keef - Tec
7. Chief Keef - Make It Count
8. Chief Keef - No
9. Chief Keef - Pull Up
10. Chief Keef - Save Me
11. Chief Keef - Slam Dunkin
12. Chief Keef - War
13. Gucci Mane and Chief Keef - Top in the Trash
14. Yae Yae Jordan feat. YNS Cheeks and Chief Keef - Strapped (Remix)
15. Chief Keef - Oh My Goodness

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 19:37 (nine years ago) link

16. Chief Keef - Love No Thotties

Ones I haven't been into: "Either Way," "April Fools," "Either Way," "Fuck Rehab," "Fucked Up" is OK but eh, "Go To Jail" "Now It's Over"

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 19:39 (nine years ago) link

you didn't even mention his best song from this year

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFTI7VOz-gI

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 20:02 (nine years ago) link

i think "fuck rehab" is great too

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 20:02 (nine years ago) link

i deliberately left both of those songs off because they aren't that good

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 20:44 (nine years ago) link

'how it go' as far as melodic autotune joints go is pretty rote

wrong

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 22:43 (nine years ago) link

have you actually heard the songs i listed

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 3 September 2014 22:47 (nine years ago) link

cmon that song isn't touching other earlier melodic joints along those lines

i love this but tell me it's not the final version http://www.audiomack.com/song/fakeshoredrive/foreigns-1

Here's a Chief Keef song from 2009, when Keef was 15 or so, produced by DJ Kenn, and people he knew who'd been killed.

dj kenns story abt how he came to chicago from japan because he wanted to do rap and was wandering the streets when keefs uncle found him and offered him a place to stay is so beautiful

lag∞n, Thursday, 4 September 2014 14:26 (nine years ago) link

how did he even figure to go to chicago its very cosmic

lag∞n, Thursday, 4 September 2014 14:28 (nine years ago) link

I guess he was in DC for a while first?

The Reverend, Thursday, 4 September 2014 19:39 (nine years ago) link

NYC. He had to leave for a situation he wouldn't explain to me. I asked he decided on Chicago and his non-answer was that he was either going to go to Miami or Chicago.

Kenn, who declined to give his real name for this article, is originally from the Yamagata Prefecture of Japan. He produced the beat for “Bang,” as well as several of Keef’s other songs. He discovered hip-hop as a teenager living in Japan, and became a big fan of Dr. Dre, Nas and Cam’ron. (“[Stillmatic and Come Home With Me] are classics to me,” Kenn said when asked about his favorite performers. “I used to listen to those every day.”) When he turned 18, around 2005, Kenn moved to Tokyo, and within two years followed a friend to New York City. “I always looked up to him,” he explained. “He was doing music with people [in the U.S.]. I was like, I want to do music like him.” The United States completely changed Kenn’s perceptions of hip-hop. “Right here, everything is life-sized,” Kenn said in a thick accent. “Radio, parties, or even clothes, anything. This is real. In Japan, it’s different. People get older and they start to listen to it. Right here, it’s like babies listen to hip-hop, they grow up with the rhythm.”

well yeah they didn't go anywhere in chicago either, they just became a mainstream fashion thing after this stuff popped off

I think Noz is right to push "Sosa style" as representative of nu keef ish, feels like a good rallying pt around which the rest of these records can rotate

rap steve gadd (D-40), Thursday, 4 September 2014 23:48 (nine years ago) link

some of this new stuff sounds like busdriver fell down a well

r|t|c, Friday, 5 September 2014 09:05 (nine years ago) link

not sure i hear that, gotta say. it's like the anti-busdriver. keef likes to max out at four words per bar

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 5 September 2014 10:19 (nine years ago) link

unless you mean, like, when he fell in the well, the sentences broke off on the way down, or something

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 5 September 2014 10:23 (nine years ago) link

oh hemiola is the only creative jazzy flow is it :P

nah it's not so much any ott lyrical miracle stuff just mainly kinda the cali bro/gameshow host voice he puts on for 'i quote' or 'shooters' tbh

r|t|c, Friday, 5 September 2014 12:12 (nine years ago) link

agree that "sosa style" is a good song for 2014 keef stuff to orbit around but i actually think it's one of his few songs from this year where he has a really dope & unique beat to work with (also "no")

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 5 September 2014 14:49 (nine years ago) link

It was an honest mistake dude, it used to be hi def's place. You remember hi def, right? You hate that guy.

that was more about joe stork's response & the finger wagging when it was linked earlier upthread

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 8 March 2016 21:06 (eight years ago) link

I mean, how dare someone respond to someone's shitty behavior with sarcastic reference to how shitty it was?

i like to trump and i am crazy (DJP), Tuesday, 8 March 2016 21:12 (eight years ago) link

It was more a joke than anything else, and I don't actually think you condone Keef being an asshole, but are you really taking people to task for saying that this was a shitty thing to do?

JoeStork, Tuesday, 8 March 2016 21:15 (eight years ago) link

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Tuesday, 28 March 2017 17:19 (seven years ago) link
