So Hard may be my favorite PSB song

but Jealousy and To Face the Truth are right up there.

Another vote for Being Boring. This must be the place I waited years to leave and So Hard would be my next choices but really I love every song. This album is perfection.

anyway this is going to be Being Boring first, Jealousy second, but I can't decide which one I want to tick

"My October Symphony" or "This Must Be the Place..." or "How Can You Expect..." The longer the title, the better.

The End of The World

That one too. I love Tennant's twang guitar (influenced by "Enjoy the Silence"), the way the detached narrative pov doesn't obscure his empathy for the couple.

'Being Boring'

As much as I love the rest of this album, it couldn't possibly be anything else. 'Jealousy' in second place. I love the way this album sounds.

not my favourite song but my fave bit is where he suddenly goes "..i'm sorry" at the end of Only The Wind. 2nd fave song would be To Face The Truth but yeah i mean it has to be Being Boring for the win.. this is gonna be the biggest landslide ever surely.

Being Boring will win anyway so I went for my initial favourite when the album came out. This Must Be the Place: the closer look at the territory of It's a Sin, the perfectly English opening lines, the Talking Heads reference, the unsettling dreamy quality, the beats, Badalamenti's strings, Johnny Marr's guitar in the fade out. I wonder how involved Marr was in the rest of the song because it reminds me a little, sonically, of Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me. A wracked epic.

Worst moment on the album by far is the guitar at the end of the chorus of How Can you Expect to be Taken Seriously? The single version is what it should have been.

This is the saddest pop record. Sadder than The Visitors even.

"So Hard" ---> "Nervously" ---> "The End of the World" is a beautiful sequence.

For many years Very has been my favourite album of theirs but this is so close behind these days. They'd both be in my top 30 albums ever list.

"How can you expect to be taken seriously?" is the only one I don't love here.

For me the hidden gem is "Nervously". The lyrics are spot on at describing that really early stage of a relationship and the music matches them perfectly

The End Of The World was added last minute and they took Miserablism off. i bloody love me some Miserablism as i imagine we all do, The End Of The World is a bit meh.

I love both equally. I don't regret the final sequence.

Aw, I feel bad for Only the Wind now.

I still fucking love this so much. Except for "Seriously", every song on this record has been a kick in the gut to me at one time or another. And unlike every record I've been crazy about since I was a teenager, I still listen to it. It still has secrets.

Plus, it has a sense of humour. It's sad, but it's not mope.

Seriously one of the greatest records ever made..

Also, I love Misersabilism, but I'm glad it's not on this record. It wouldn't fit. And there wouldn't be the amazing Music for Boys - Miserabilism - Hey Headmaster on Alternative.

Miserablism is hard to spell.

Pretty much agree with all that you said (Even down to Miserablism being a hard word to spell. This poll made me play it again and I really have no excuse for putting it in my all time top 10 albums. It's just so beautiful.

Only the Wind was robbed, right? One of the darkest, most 'bad vibes' songs of all time, but nevertheless a fantastic piece of work.

I just discovered this album recently (only really familiar with a few PSB singles).. I really love its understated glow. Favorite right now is "How can you expect to be taken seriously?"

SERIOUSLY

"Being Boring" is probably the best, most Pet Shop Boys thing ever recorded and named.

"Being Boring" is the song equivalent of the "Actually" cover, which is the most Pet Shop Boys cover ever photographed.

That last verse on Being Boring gets me every time.
