Big Head Todd & The Monsters: Classic or Dud?

This afternoon I had the sudden urge to listen to these guys, specifically two of their hits: "Circle" (which has a very-'90s "whatever, dude" chorus) and the very pretty "Bittersweet". I read somewhere that their breakthrough album, Sister Sweetly, went gold without cracking the Billboard Top 100. Now that music of this era is appearing on Classic Rock or Classic Alternative stations, you don't hear these tracks at all, but they were pretty huge on both Modern & Album Rock radio when I was a kid, in that brief post-Spin Doctors pre-Dave Matthews period of Jam Bands going mainstream. The S.S. followup bombed, but they had a small radio hit on the next one with "Resignation Superman", and they did a duet cover of "Boom Boom" w/John Lee Hooker that's been in a bunch of ads and movies.

Man, I never heard these guys. I was really into the H.O.R.D.E. tour bands at the time too, so I kept seeing ads for their album. I might have even seen them on HORDE, but not realized it? Listening to this song, it seems like they really should get some of the credit for the Nickleback yarl-rock that so often gets blamed on grunge.
