Jimmy Chamberlin.
― Welcome To (Turrican), Friday, 31 October 2014 21:44 (nine years ago) link
I mean, Jimmy is the only person that Billy has ever kicked out of the Pumpkins where you notice his absence.
― Welcome To (Turrican), Friday, 31 October 2014 21:46 (nine years ago) link
what?? who are all these people
― j., Friday, 31 October 2014 21:47 (nine years ago) link
Oh yeah Melissa is definitely the coolest person in here.
Chamberlin is one of my favorite rock drummers, though, so I'm going to pick him.
― Moka, Friday, 31 October 2014 21:47 (nine years ago) link
Lol Billy is gonna end up without a single vote here isn't he?

Fear not! I have researched them before starting this poll.
Original Band Members:Billy CorganJames IhaD'arcy WretzkyJimmy Chamberlin
Jeff Schroeder: Replaced James Iha from 2007-presentMelissa Auf der Maur: Replaced D'arcy 1999-00 although she never really recorded any bass parts... in retrospect she was only a tour member so I shouldn't have included her in the poll.Nicole Fiorentino: Replaced Melissa Auf Der Maur 00-present.Mike Byrne: Replaced Jimmy Chamberlin from 2009-2014Tommy Lee: Will replace Byrne 2014-onwards.
― Moka, Friday, 31 October 2014 21:53 (nine years ago) link
Melissa definitely didn't play on Machina, and I'm pretty sure she didn't play on Machina II. She was a touring member.
― ET sippin the wig (spazzmatazz), Friday, 31 October 2014 21:55 (nine years ago) link
whoops
Sorry, Nicole actually formed part of the band from 2010-2014.
― Moka, Friday, 31 October 2014 21:56 (nine years ago) link
Wait, so who replaced Jimmy when he was fired after the death of Jonathan Melvoin? Was it that drummer guy from Filter?
― a pleasant little psychedelic detour in the elevator (Amory Blaine), Friday, 31 October 2014 21:56 (nine years ago) link
xpost: Yeah I realized that, but we should let it slide since she is pretty cool and she has been the only touring member to appear on photoshoots and videos as an 'official' band member.

Yes, that was Matt Walker from Filter but he only worked as a substitute member for the rest of the tour and didn't record any songs with them. The next album was Adore which I think didn't have a drummer?
― Moka, Friday, 31 October 2014 22:00 (nine years ago) link
Oh shit, wait. Apparently these are the credits for Adore:
Matt Walker – drums on "To Sheila", "Ava Adore", "Daphne Descends", "Tear", "The Tale of Dusty and Pistol Pete", "Annie-Dog", and "Behold! The Night Mare"Matt Cameron – drums on "For Martha"Joey Waronker – drums on "Perfect", additional drums on "Once Upon a Time" and "Pug"
Damn Wikipedia didn't list Matt Walker as a former SP member.
― Moka, Friday, 31 October 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link
Oh well, noone was going to vote for any of those drummers when you have Chamberlin in here, right?
― Moka, Friday, 31 October 2014 22:03 (nine years ago) link
Wow, I really never even grasped that Cameron and esp Waronker did drums on Adore too. I really need to read up on my liner notes!
Np Moka. You can't really call Walker a former SP member imho. And that goes for a lot of these passers by.

O: But don't you feel a little pressure to dress the part of a rock star?JW: Well, yeah. I always kind of do, anyway. I'm always interested in being a part of what's going on. That's more interesting than pulling the "I'm the hot-shit drummer guy." I won't name names.O: Well, here's a name. You played on The Smashing Pumpkins' Adore, but Kenny Aronoff toured with them. When he toured with them, he really looked like the band dressed him up. Kind of silly.JW: They didn't dress him up! That's him, a hundred percent. I mean, I can't say that, but I was supposed to do that tour, and I decided not to, because... [Laughs.] Billy Corgan wasn't going to tell anyone how to dress, that's for shit-sure. That was purely that guy being, like... [Laughs.] It's funny you should bring him up. That's the ultimate, like, "I'm Drummer-Guy." At least in that gig, he wasn't playing as part of The Smashing Pumpkins. I'm sure he was like, "Oh, shit, I've been doing this for a long time, and I'm not getting as much work as I have been, and I'd better look young."O: But that begs the question: Were John Mellencamp and John Fogerty dressing him down? You know, "Take off those silly sunglasses!"JW: I can't believe he did it. I know exactly what you're talking about. It was so mind-boggling, he just looked silly. At a certain point, if you're doing rock 'n' roll, you've got to age gracefully. You can't try to be young, because it's not going to work. Because you're up against 25-year-olds, and you shouldn't care in the first place.
