I've probably missed some, for which I'm sorry

It's between Kenny Everett (for showing how radio DJ lols should be done) and John Peel (for showing how being a radio DJ means or at least should mean actually giving two shits about music).

Rosko was there for that photoshoot (he's on the far right here), so I don't know why he didn't make it into the main group shot. Been thinking about these guys recently after reading Tony Blackburn's autiobiography, I know next to nothing about roughly 50% of them

I met Keith Skues once, at a veh posh drinks do in North Notts. He was at Hallam FM by then.

Yeah, I met him too, he'd just started as Programme Director there. This would be late 1975, Yorkshire TV studios.

I must have met him in, ooh, 1976 probably.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Oh, and Annie Nightingale, at the same place/time.

Mark G, Friday, 21 November 2014 12:19 (nine years ago) link

I think Emperor Rosko was OK, he used to play mostly soul + reggae, at least I have a compilation album with his name on it and it's all soul.

Euripides' Trousers (Tom D.), Friday, 21 November 2014 12:27 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, much missed. He's still alive, just exists in obscure places.

Mark G, Friday, 21 November 2014 12:31 (nine years ago) link

Peel vs Kenny for me. The latter I loved as a kid, mostly on TV tbh. The former I loved as a teen/adult, for his radio stuff. So...

I forgot to vote in this, would have gone with Kenny Everett.
Impressive showing for Chris Denning

Thought Ken might have got at least one.

Mark G, Saturday, 22 November 2014 13:46 (nine years ago) link

Oh shit. Now I wish I'd done that thing where you can vote a second time between the notification that the poll's about to end, and it ending (can you still do that?)
