aaah I'm sorry to post so much but the new Meridian Brothers album is awesome
https://www.ableton.com/en/blog/sounds-in-context-meridian-brothers/
It's a project dedicated to the organ. I was inspired by the ambient Hammond organists in Latin America, a style that developed in parallel to easy listening music genres in 60’s & 70’s. Organists from Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panamá and Brazil developed a remarkable style performing with backing bands that played traditional instruments, with the organ as the central instrument – in some cases achieving really beautiful results. A sub-genre of organ cumbia was created also. This music is still played at some of the "sonideros" parties in Mexico and is very popular in Ecuador.Starting from some of these records, I decided to investigate this style, using the timbre of the organ, but developing the style further and turning it into a kind of "impossible organ" music – a kind of un-easy listening. I used the same background instrumentation as was used in some of the tunes I was inspired by: double bass pizzicato, jazz-like drums and the organ (using software and hardware synthesizers). Occasionally, I also used drum machines and other electronic sounds. Because it's very difficult to play it on the organ alone, I used the sequencing capabilities of Ableton Live and Max for Live in order to achieve this "impossible" sound I wanted.

they've been mentioned here a few times, but mellow reverbed-out indie dreampop is (understandably) not going to make much of a splash on ilm in 2015

hmm, interesting reference points. the best comparisons I can come up with are the second Telescopes album (which is itself a blend of shoegaze and Fairportsy folk-rock) and Midlake, and I don't hear as much of a direct classic rock/folk influence as some people seem to. Picture You has a few more loud feedbacky guitar passages than Gentle Stream (expecially on 'Safe Island') but overall it's not drastically different from every other Amazing album. I still feel like this sort of thing is anathema to ilm's current sensibilities, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Hmmm, late discovery. The Kickback (Spoon's Jim Eno=producer) - "Headhunter" (from album Sorry All Over The Place). Hadn't heard a thing about these angular pop guys, though apparently they've been kicking around for years before recording their debut.

Here's a link to a playlist of my favorite tracks of the year: http://open.spotify.com/user/scottpgwp/playlist/7ilAqzxqmsAQ8xGcozIWce
Not ranked, but rather ordered as a pleasurable listening experience. Some obvious stuff (Tame Impala, Kurt Vile, Bjork), and perhaps some less obvious stuff (Jonas Munk, C. Duncan, Roedelius)--also people don't seem to have noticed that Radio Dept released some great singles this year, and the Walkmen essentially reformed without calling themselves the Walkmen.

Can i just say how much i love music's diversity... both the artistic field and the ILX collective's groupmind? We're a few days away from the end of the year and here's a list of new music that mostly hasn't been mentioned prior... not just on this thread but ANY of the genre threads! It is, to relocate the old proverb about chess, a river from which a flea may sip or an elephant may quench its thirst.

I genuinely don't have it in me to comb through this thread to clean it up so I'm wrapping it up for the year. If I missed something or if a track comes available sometime in the future, bump here to let me know and I'll add.

Ha, I had no clue on either front, so appreciate the news. I was thinking about Radio Dept recently, seems like ages ago since their last album.
