The Worst of the Worst of the Worst: "Rude" vs. "All About That Bass"

Yup. Sorry, should have mentioned--these were the two "winners" of the two previous Worst Song polls. Vote for your least fave.

I'd still vote for "Rude" even if all I knew about either song were the above screen caps.

"Rude" is just all kinds of awful. Gets my vote.

"rude" after a few listens becomes strangely...charming? "all about that bass" still straight up heinous

I've found it fairly easy over the last year to ignore Rude. Not so with All About That Bass.

I don't know what I hate more: cismen singing about marriage or "I love my body when a man wants me". Fuck both of them.

Neither of these songs is actively terrible. But the "no treble" metaphor is worse than the misuse of the word "rude"

Rude was one of those songs I had just kind of absorbed somehow by osmosis, never even knew there was a current band called MAGIC!

Meghan Trainor's presence is definitely much more felt in the world right now.

i also feel pretty optimistic that i won't have to hear from magic for much longer whereas i feel real trepidation that trainor won't be going away any time soon

both songs have crossed over from painfully heinous to enjoyably heinous for me, more genuinely impressed by the pile-up of hooks in "bass" than "rude," but "rude"'s guitar solo was probably the biggest lol Top 40 gave me this year. so this is hard!

The video kind of makes them look like a "real band" (apology in advance for rockism), like the guy manages to almost not seem like he was farm-raised from birth to be a pop star.

I get almost an inverse vibe from Trainor, it's like she tries very hard to project this "knowing" vibe like she's "been around the block a few times" but it's not convincing at all.

I've loved Rude unconditionally since I first heard it on satellite radio, but listening to the song with the video actively devalues it. It's so dopey and the lead singer is the aesthetic equivalent of a sandwich left in the rain.

AATB however is just godawful, and I dont even need to see the video to get bad vibes from it. It takes a reasonably catchy melody and childish teehee wordplay and stretches whats basically a 2 minute song to 5 or 6 torturous minu--*scrolls up to check actual length of the song*--WHAT, IT'S SHORTER THAN RUDE?!

That says it all right there, Bass is repetitive to the point of torture and I hate it

I don't think it's a "wry mockery" but I think there's some gentle/playful self-awareness about being an unrealistic youth.

You know how in that Sublime song the dead guy says "I can play the guitar like a motherfucking riot" and proceeds to have the worst guitar solo ever recorded? The one in this song gives that a run for the money.

I went to a club yesterday and they played these two songs next to each other. Sequence was: uptown funk, alabada bass and rude. I was sober. People were singing along. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a club.
